This is one of many Husqvarna saws I recently got in. I am not all that versed in modern Husky saws. The model plate is long scratched. So ole Husky guys what is the ole girl.....

Everything of the chassis says its a late model 61. The 268 would have had the snorkel on the upper left of the top cover and the 268/272 air filter that would not fit under the slant back cover. The early 61 or 266 would have had the idle adjuster for the carb in the case.

I truly am lost when it comes to many of the Husky ID's. The cylinder # comes back as a 266 but not sure the rest of the saw does .... :)

My gut feeling is 268 just like you said
The 266 and 268 XP were nearly the same saws, other than the smaller square recoil tag on the 266. A better picture of the cylinder transfers would tell whether it’s a 268 or 268XP. The 268XP would have more of a rounded swoop to the transfers as opposed to the 268 open port being straight up and down.

The late model 61 and the white top 61 Rancher are nothing alike.
So is this a late model?

Thinking it is an open port 268 or a late 61(orange top cover, not white or black) as others have said, no side hole in the top cover. It is a later case (268/61/272) as the front top cover screw is behind the recoil screw. 2 piece ignition case saws the front top cover screw is in front of the recoil screw.

The 268 and 266 recoil are different even with the small decal inset. The 268 only has the short vents top and bottom, where the 266 has short vents on all 4 sides.

My $0.02 worth. It is a late model 61. It's after the flywheel side case change to the single ign. Top cover is similar to the 266 but a 266 top cover won't fit a late case saw (as in 268/272 or late 61) Of course who know's what parts got mixed into it as this family tree has seriously long branches. Could be a late 61 with a 266 top end.......many options here.
