Brewz and I have been discussing the modded Walbro 460 carb as a viable carb. It would have a venturi of 17.5mm and completely altered jetting. With the offset discharge nozzle and the larger venturi, it looks like it could flow quite well - and it would be an easy swap.

It took me a while to figure that freaking carburetor out. It appears the factory 'hid' the EPA restriction to the low speed circuit in the tunnel for the main discharge nozzle. After all the mental gymnastics I went through to figure out WHY they did it that way, it appears they wanted to make the carb EPA tamper proof. - I think I figured out how to tamper with it. Not a hard set of mods, but it requires that you get into the guts of the carb.

I've got a way to go, but I'm on the home-stretch now. The carb is working very well with great stability in the fuel mixture. I think as soon as I get the metering spring right (for my 64cc 029) the carb will be a top carb to mod as a replacement for the HD series. After I get it dialed in on the 029/390, I might try to see if it will top the modded Zama on my 77cc 'Husky'.

Took it out today to use it even though I have it all clean and advertised for sale.

Loved it!

Cuts fast....... really fast seemingly punching above its weight.
Smooth too hold, like I was cutting logs made from soft butter.
Balance is really nice, and after a couple tanks, I felt none of the fatigue I get from wielding the 066.

I just deleted the add after reading all the half arsed offers.

I am keeping it, I like how it sounds, more F1 than V8

Now that the decision is made, Its gunna get a serious muffler mod with a side pipe added.
May widen the exhaust port a touch and open up the port, and port match the muffler.

I did notice it doesnt hold a nice steady idle speed, so I may end up splitting the case and giving it a full birthday
Not sure if its sucking air or a carb issue at this stage but sometimes it idles at higher RPM after a run, and sometimes it sits there threatening to stall.

I did give it half a turn on the LA crew and that seemed to fix it, so may just be tuning issue.

Also very happy with the 22" bar.
A bit more reach than a 20, but lighter and better balanced than a 24.

The Lathe I had organized to buy fell through, but when I get one, this will get some meat taken off the base as it is running .027 squish with no gasket in factory form.

I would love to hear some advice on weather the lowers can benefit from any work.

Thanks mate.
I was thinking of just working then to improve flow transition but not hogging them that would reduce velocity.

What exactly do you mean when you say "blend"?

I assume that overdone "flaring" of the intakes to the transfers mainly will serve to lessen the mean case pressure - and likely hurt performance more than it helps.

Also, the "goal" has to be a balance between the capacity of the carb, intake, transfers and exhaust - improving only one of them only helps if that one is the "choke point" in that "chain". Of course that isn't the full story, there are many more complicated factors involved, like the timing of the different ports.
