I get the decomp, especially on larger displacement saws. But I use the decomp on all of my saws, including the 346. I just figure if it reduces wear and tear on starter components, why not use it. My saws all start fine using it...To each their own though. :)

the first I pick of my saw is decomp valve and use plug. Will do the same when I build up my 550. That said most of them are stock saws, on high comp saw it would be difference I guess,

Purge bulbs are at their most useful on saws that have been sitting for a while, reducing the number of pulls before fuel is available to the carb. I like them.
good point
Most of my saws didnt have purge bulb if they have sat for awhile I normally just give them a tad fuel in carb

Using it isn't a problem if the saw in question starts well when using it. Not all saws do that.

Then there is of course the possibility that using it causes wear, and eventually a leaking decomp valve. It isn't very common, but does happen,

The purge bulbs seem to be a normal fitment on saws that say they are "Easy Start" these days ....brush cutters and hedge trimmers seem to have them a lot now as well. Thing iv had with the Zama and Walbro carbs on trimmers/hedge trimmers with a built in bulb is that if you don't use it when the bulb is empty you get nowhere at all ...the impulse won't fill it to get a fire up. Dol 420 is the only saw i have with a bulb ...cold...3 pushes and it fires on 2nd pull full choke ...no pushes ...more pulls to fire up on full choke. Easy start I guess :D

I always forget to push the primer bulb when I start a saw, or a weedeater. Sometimes they start easier when I do.
