Got my wheel in the mail today. Guess I've gotta decide which one I wanna check first.

It wasn't that bad, I considered making my own, but I'm not good a drawing let alone cutting circles. Plus I don't have a printer, and I figured it would take a good hour or more to make one that $14 from eBay and free shipping to my door didn't sound too bad.

Plus you should know by now it's not the size of the tool but how you use it. ;-)

If the size of the tool is all that matters, some things may need to be re evaluated in your life. Lol

Ok guys, how wide is too wide on a port, go for the skirt, or a little more conservative.

And specifically on a transfer port how wide can I take one of those? For a quad and dual transfer.

General rule is 65% of bore diameter, provided you stay a couple mm away from skirt edge. Transfer width can be opened toward intake, but be careful of ring ends

I'm not the expert here (hopefully some one else will say something) but be careful with opening up the upper transfers. If you decrease velocity, you can decrease performance. Bigger is not always better. (I'm just repeating what more knowledgeable people have said).

When widening, be certain to leave 2mm from any edge of port to piston so that it seals and does not "freeport". One the intake side the same warning apply, do not open anything up such that the ring ends will open up into the ports or transfers while the piston is traveling up and down.
The 65% rule is for the same reasons, too wide of port will allow the rings to pooch out into the wide opening, and snag on the edge of the port with catastrophic failure. Generous chamfers around the port openings help as well to prevent this.
