Good point. Im gonna keep tweakin until I get all of the angles correct.
It will take some practice...then muscle memory. Are you doing it on the bar, or do you have a chain clamp? A clamp makes it much easier!! The deflection of the tooth while sharpening in the bar can make consistent angles tough as well. If sharpening on a bar, I usually try to get the chain pretty tight on the saw, which helps lessen tooth deflection.

I use the same file, but I sharpen on the bar, my chains almost never leave the bar.

I use a stump vice (I mark where I put it) and set the saw on top of a wooden box. Then, I lock the tooth in place with a paint stirrer in back of the tooth, angled down to the wooden box, and sharpen with my other hand. I sit next to the box on a mechanic's stool.

Works well for me, fast and simple!

And, the right angles are not just defined by how fast it cuts, but also by how long it lasts. That is why I don't go too steep.
