Seeing that file answers the question as to why there is no straight side plate on some of the pics on the fb group.

I’d like to see the end of the log with this chain. Wonder if it’s smooth.

Those files look like they have a very narrow side plate edge. Maybe .050”?

Yeah I have a Pferd triangle, and I dont use it because they dont cut a nice cutter.

I see John Reily uses the triangle to hit just the side cutter as a finishing touch, but he uses the wide edge.

Thanks for the file Matt. This is the second filing converting this chain, I rocked it the other day.

6 sided stihl, files nice, as Kevin said earlier its ok on .375” lil tight with a longer cutter.

It has a more rounded edge between the wide and narrow sides than the double bevels. Was a tad easier to see the corner.74F00667-F250-4310-8123-B1FED9EFA9E2.jpegA519B347-4E1A-45B5-9943-554887A38127.jpeg 8BD31FB6-E728-43FA-96CE-FC2677A4DF3F.jpeg

Honest question since I have little to share and everything to learn: But isn't the shelf of the notch supposed to be more pronounced on the outside of the cutter. In your photo it looks like the shelf is wider on the inside and then tapers back to the outside.

All it takes is another couple swipes. Your chain will cut more efficiently. On a square chain your sideplate and working corner do the majority of the work. Here is one i just converted today.

How did you do that without cutting into the tie strap?
