How to square file

Double whammy. Still chain in 325. Where’s that fluid?

Trying to get the lean on but it murders the tie strap.


I hate square filing 325...

Me too. I got one of those Vallorbe single bevel files and I’m wondering if it will make it easier to file the .325. Seems like my Pferd double bevels just take up too much space to get the right angles

I bet it's better, if you can keep it from flexing. I've never used one but what I read they aren't as rigid. I think I'll phone a friend and keep getting my 325 ground.

I polled the audience and decided to keep .325 round

My first try at square was on a 325 chain, wasn't to bad but I used the hexagon shaped file also. I agree with mike though, if you have a source for someone to grind them (which I do not) your better off.

I think .325 files just as easy as 3/8.

Is the stihl a little bigger? Roomier? The only .325 I have is Carlton

325 is for stihls that can’t pull 3/8” anyway. [emoji23]

Run saws with enough balls to pull 3/8 square. If it ain’t got enough and you need to run .325 just stick to round

If Carlton is much different, harder to file, smaller teeth, etc.

Then I wouldn’t buy it, just sayin

Yes Carlton and Stihl in .325 are quite different. Stihl and Oregon are much closer. I can square the Stihl and Oregon, not the Carlton. Just doesn't look physically possible.
