What an I missing here? The 1st chain doesn’t have any, second one looks to me to have plenty. No beer googles on tonight so I’m scratching my bald head.

The cutter on the turntable isn’t in either video.

. Yes there is fwd lean in the second video, but not nearly as much as the cutter on the turntable.

The chains in both videos are leaving some very rough finishes and could use a spin in reverse up against a stone

For a gas saw with a dirt bike pipe, i think it’s doing alright.

The wood looks pretty smooth to me, considering the chain isn’t stoned.

File a chain each way and see for yourself.
1. Every degree matters (including 1/2 of a degree)

2. The Stihl cutter is just about brand new, while the Oregon cutter sits over the rivet ............

3. Tenths of a second seperate culls from contenders ..........

Bottom line, Deets is dead nuts correct, that Stihl cutter would be a grabby muther scratcher, and would need a saw with alot of power to make use of it

Angle finder wasn’t moved. It’s neither here nor there. It all belongs in the race chain discussion. :nusenuse:

Thanks for saying that because this latest round of square file discussion was going way over my comprehension level and pay grade

I like the “farwood hacker” approach and when you start talking about the subtleties of race chain I get lost real fast

You guys are seeing gnat’s ass variations that are soooo far beyond me now

I will do my best to catch up and catch on to the “basics” and then hopefully my head won’t hurt so bad

I don’t disagree at all. I just saw similar lean. #imadik?

So a little bit of forward lean helps create a self feeding chain, which is desireable. So when you learn to file for yourself, make sure the side plate is 90 degrees or a bit forward leaning.
I’m no race chain expert so it’s a learning experience for me as well. Luckily these fellers share their knowledge.

The sharing part is what I meant
