The first 3-4 I use an older, less sharp file. This one takes the brunt of the job. Then i switch to another to get the toof where I want it. Then I use the Stihl file for 2 light passes to smooth the finish. Probably a nail retentive, but files ain’t cheap and I can get more mileage this way.

I had some experimental years when I was younger so I can sympathize.

Actually while I love the music of the Dead and was born in 1955 I am the straightest arrow from that era you are ever likely to meet

I also grew up in Texas where a joint got you 20 years and between that and being raised by an ex cowboy on Air Force bases I toed the line pretty good

Not to say I didn't enjoy the occasional liquid refreshment but I even gave that up almost 30 years ago after finding out my father, uncle, and grandfather were all alcoholics

I read the writing on that wall big time and literally overnight I said nope, it's not for me

My kids on the other hand?

Well, lets just say pot is totally legal up here and they partake

But, middle son takes after his dad in a lot of ways

He did this a few years back

For those of you that don't get it, this is a classic "STEAL YOUR FACE" Grateful Dead sticker

The one in the previous post is his play on words...

"STIHL YOUR FACE"

Same to you! I’m just a firewood hack so take it for what it’s worth.

What’s worth a lot is good people like you taking the time to share knowledge, skills, and a touch of humor with total strangers like me

Hopefully someday, at a GTG somewhere, we can share a laugh and a cold drink and quit being strangers

Wolverine: That Carlton chain NOS by any chance, looks nice. Reason I ask is it appears to not have the vibe-ban technology that's sold on pretty much all new name brand chain these days. Any of the residend chisel filers tried the new Vallorb's yet or are they a bit hard to get.

I don’t know chit about Carlton chain honestly. I found two loops locally and bought them at $10ea.

No contacts for the Vallorbe’s yet.

Cutter in the bottom vid would be grabby and power robbing

I’ve ran a cutter similar to that when cutting cedar it’s much more aggressive and faster cutting in that soft wood. Take that same cutter in Doug fir on the same rim and it will stall in the cut as well as clogged up with chips.

A slight forward lean is fine, but the cutter in the vid is just less efficient in every way
