I didn't mean to step on any toes. You asked a question that is not specific to GTG/race chains, work chains, full comp square chisel chains, round file chains ect.. you asked "After working a chain, do you guys give them a bath in something to rinse out the abrasives/filings or you just slap em on and run em?" With 37+ Years of experience making my living with a chainsaw everyday for 16+ hours a day and my sons competing in the Lumberjack World Championships & World Logging Championships, I thought my answer was relevant & helpful to you.
What circuit are the boys on?
Up north? Or down south?
Where you guys out of?

My sons no longer compete. 2014 was the last year of competition for both of them, too much of a rich mans game!
Lumberjack World Championships are held in Hayward, Wisconsin.
http://www.lumberjackworldchampionships.com/
International Association Logging Championships / IALC - sanctioning body.
World Logging Championship are held once every 2 years in a different country.
In 2000 competition was held in Norway.
In 2002 competition was held in Scotland.
In 2004 competition was held in Italy.
In 2006 competition was held in Estonia.
In 2008 competition was held in Germany.
In 2010 competition was held in Croatia.
In 2012 competition was held in Belarus.
In 2014 competition was held in Switzerland.
Both competed in hot saw, standing chop, underhand chop and double buck.
Tony also competed in springboard chop & Brad competed in standard block.
We're as far north east as possible in Minnesota, Cook County.
Way off the grid north & east of the Superior National Forest.

Apparently I pay them too well!
Naw, when I was in my 20's and 30's I did some crazy stuff too. At least with this we got to do it as a family!
Finally they both realized no matter how much they spent on saws, chains, axes ect.... there were guys that really had no other job other than competition, some of these pro's train like Olympic athletes, it's all they do day in day out, we all work for a living.
I do kind of miss those hot saws my boys had, a Honda CR250R engine made into a 60lb chainsaw that would blow your eardrums 50 feet away!
I believe they paid $8000 per saw to cut down, up, down - Crazy stuff to me!
When I get a chance I will pull the cylinder out of a 2000 Jonsered 2171 I bought in Norway, it's like no other cylinder from any Husqvarna 371, 372xp or Jonsered 2171 we have in the states, I have replaced the piston, ring, pin bearing on it a number of times over the years, it is a 50mm piston no question but that cylinder has different timing & more compression, it sounds much different & feels like it makes more power, I'll have to take some pics so you all can see what I'm talking about. That cylinder has to be a different part number although I've never been able to find it, once you see the cylinder you will see right away what I'm talking about.

As for square filed chains.
I ran 2 tanks through the 7901 in hedge at the delivery site today.. It's still cutting good.
That's 2 cords worth.
Still going.

I wiped it off with my thumb best I could to show the top plate and corner amongst the trash.
That chain won't win a race, but it's such a pleasure to cut with..
When you're cutting stuff under load, you can cut down, wrap around, and bore through the bottom, then nip upward till it pops apart without kicking, bucking, and snorting of that stupid semi chisel..
It's like holding a light saber, dissecting a tree piece by piece..
