Makes me feel a little better :)

The saws that I use and/or collect are saws that were gifts.....or saws that are damaged in some way that makes them not as valuable. There are a few saws that I just won't part with no matter the price.

Shiny saws are for selling. Beat up saws are for using.

I think you meant 13lbs away from your body is HARDER on you than the heavier power head close??

If so I totally agree. Thats why I tend to run a 500i with 28" bar way more than my 261. Usually the saw is a little overkill for the wood size I am cutting but being able to stand upright and cut is so much more comfortable for me. I am only 6'1" but still have to bend over quite a bit with a 20" bar.

I also find power head weight has much less effect on me than the weight of the bar. I'd rather run a 661 with LW bar than a 462 with an standard ES bar on it.

Yes! Please allow me to correct that in my original post.

Guess I shoulda mentioned my "three" saws so ya know, we stay on topic...

2 261s
462
500i
661
395

Though I have yet to run the 395

And while I always carry 2 saws in case I get pinched I pretty much just run a 500i for everything

Just a heat my house with wood and have a lot of property that I look after and miles and miles of fences to take care of.

No pro by any means, hoping to work my way up to novice status one day.

First: Apply blue Loctite to every faster on your 395. Then run your 395, and if it’s what you use to run at least a 3 foot bar, you’ll never touch your 661 again. I like a lot of things Stihl does, especially now they’ve embraced spring mount AV, but that saw just eats a 661 for breakfast, lunch, dinner and some après dinner desert when the long bars come out.

Unless your 661’s M-Tronic system works well. That’s worth putting up with the AV mount design.

My saws are in my sig. I’m in the desert in Stihl country and they don’t much float my boat, just like what I’m familiar with, so I have to buy what I want to try, mostly on here. Still in process of buying and trying. Love the 7900, it kills everything near it’s weight. Might sell my two 2166s. Love my 3120, I say it’s like Thor’s hammer of saws. 395 for longish bars but not as heavy. Felling big stuff mostly. 2 series huskies…I like them. 670 (sold) was cool and 630(for sale) is cool but too many saws on that platform. The 7900 makes them Moot…gonna have @huskihl build me a 272 to try. I really like the 6100…but it’s kinda heavy nice and $$$ (I won it) and so I mostly play with it. I have 3 saws now in the 2159/357 family, like them…but the whole extension thing @Catbuster mentioned has me thinking about getting a 346 from @Funky sawman and sending it to @huskihl…and then running a long, light bar on it like @Benwa. My 261 is cool for a Stihl and I thought about having Kevin port it, but since bars n stuff don’t interchange with other saws, it’s for sale.

projects…anxious to build my box of 288 pieces…maybe keep it stock for lower rpm dry euc cutting tractor saw.

super xL 925…it was almost free, token older bigger saw.

I have a thing for 2050s as that’s what I started with. Light and snappy. None run now, need to remedy that…might not really need that 346…

2139…loved the power when it ran good but it’s kinda heavy for true one handing or a lot of it. I can’t keep it running well (will pay for
Good tech to tackle it). Brings me to 2511…basically a nice light necessary evil. I don’t like dealing with limbs and such. Maybe muff mod n stuff maybe get ported.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some…

One thing I have not heard anyone else doing. When I can't get to where I need to cut with a truck or atv and have to hoof it in. I will usually have say a 24-28" on the saw and a 18-20" in a pack. This way should I end up pinching or having a issue. I can keep at it. Maybe I should add a second extra bar and have a three bar plan :p

Living in farm country has it's real drawbacks when you need to get wood cut. Two totally different thing's cutting and getting hauled out. Sucks cutting and stacking and have to wait until crops are out to go haul and hope someone didn't find a score...... And then you are s.o.l for your work.

But lately a perfect world three saw plan for me 7900,562 and 193tc. Next week it will be different

I'm afraid to count what I'm back up to in saws.

I started chainsaw life with a one saw plan for about the first 20 years (034). Then, I bought the saw that I really wanted when I was gifted the 034 (044). That makes two. Then I found this place and after poking around in here I felt compelled to conform to the three saw plan you speak of and bought an 066.
Now I don’t know where to turn, I’ve gone batshit crazy since and the only one who will engage in an extended conversation with me (they are all about chainsaws) is the wife, occasionally. I can no longer enter my “room” without turning the lights on because I may stumble into a sharp object and seriously injure myself. Some of the crap is thigh high, and there’s a vein in there that will kill you if you nick it.
I don’t remember when I gave up. Now the saws just keep coming. I look around my place and wonder where did all the money come from to acquire all this. I’m certain my wife and close friends wonder the same thing. Credit card balances are too high, but my brain does the math and instantly reasons it’s ok , your ahead in this game. Right. People don’t ask me how many saws I have anymore because the answer has been the same for a long time. “I don’t know”.
I used to worry that the wife might notice a shiny new one and I’d have to explain. No need. I don’t think she cares anymore, I think she’s more concerned with the health of her cats. She tries not to look up when she come down to see me in “my room”. The walls are lined with shelves and they are covered with my three saw plan.
I have brief moments of lucidity and will sell a saw or two. I’ll go a day or two afterward feeling like I did something charitable, then I’ll see another I’ve just got to have…

Guess I'm the slacker in this thread lol ... 461 is the main saw (20", 25" & 32" bar depending), plus 261 for smaller wood/limbing, pinched bar, or dull chain. 440 & 260 backups that get started once in a while but that's it. Don't care to keep up with maintenance on more than two saws.

I have quite a few saws but the only ones I acually keep and use are my 3 huskys - 51-372 & 390,- that get used, the rest are under rotation or parts doners except for my only collector saw is my non running wild thing- just makes me smile when I look at the interesting purple and lime green saw with Wild Thing written on it.
