Ha Ha ha .The reason Rich Dougan does that is so the starter pawls don't get caught on compression back spin and tear the recoil up .Probably not a bad idea but he's the only one I know of who does it .BTW I've had to replace starter pawls .Fact got one right now I'm restoring with a bad pawl .The switch, without pulling my rope out(thats what im curious about)

I don't doubt it at all, just nobody ever told me about it and I don't guess I've ever lost apawl, to inspire me to study it close enough to be knowledgeable in starter theory.(see: "owner to lazy " in original post) I was confident that he had a reason, I imagine that with increased compression, would come increased shock load on related parifanalia ,hence the pulling out of gear, if you will. Also works with Australian Shepherds,If its a husky i lay ot on its side then hit kill swich and tell it to stay.
