Round at this point. I may have a square grinder someday, but $1K is a bit too much right now and there would inevitably be things that I left round (semi-chisel chains), so the round grinder made a lot more sense.
I suppose I'll need to get a grinder, I'm not nearly as good at filing as I'd like to think I am!

If you're going to round file, buy a $35 Granberg File-n-joint. One of the best purchases I ever made, makes for a hell of a chain. Otherwise an Oregon 520/Tecomec Jolly or better (like the Maxx that I bought, or the Oregon 620/Tecomec Super Jolly) is a worthwhile investment towards long-term maintenance.

UhOh! Bishop's posted on Facebook and initiated a feeding frenzy. Carl and Kenneth, you better make a run and grab what you can before they are vacuumed out.

It's just viewable on Facebook so my link would lead to there.

Good morning!

Thought the cold had left me, thought wrong. Went to bed early, woke up at 2....

Lot of rethinking regarding life plans and so forth. I am impressed with what I see you guys doing! That loader is a beast! (Or whatever that yellow piece of diesel-powered hydraulic machinery is called)

I may not get the tree business off the ground after all. I have to meet with the director of the city horticulture dept. at some point, and I'm not really ready to do that, in terms of knowing the lingo and regs. Been trying to read up on things, but the more I read, the more involved it seems to become. I suppose anything is like that, but I just want to climb, run saws, and get a bit of firewood, and helping people out and getting a bit of pay would be nice as well.

Anyway, just rethinking a lot of things. I SUCK at making and following through with plans. ADHD is a real thing.

Hope your day is good!

I'm curious what these regs are and if they're the same statewide. My buddy has a tree service and I know he has trouble with book learning. He worked a couple years "on his own" with different climbers so he may have picked up a lot doing that. Now he has a crew and supports a wife and 3 little ones.
Is it arborist skills and lingo they're stressing? Of course, only you know what's best for you but I hope you go for it. Good luck with it.

Thanks Brett. Yeah, I’m going to go for it, but I tend to worry sometimes, and anytime there is something inherently dangerous, somebody’s gonna wanna regulate it to where nobody can move with equipment in their hands. I’ll have to see what the lady says before o come to any conclusions. There is a lot to this pruning part that I don’t know, and of course the first job I went to look at is a full pruning on two mature oaks, it would be a BIG job for me, esp without a chipper or big trailer yet. All things in good time. I need to do something to get me moving again, there is only so much concrete to bust up around here. Another big hackberry in my yard, though. I decided it needs to come down before the chickens arrive .
