Maybe include a 5 and 6 cube piped saw class, along with an unlimited. That's assuming your hotsaw class is bike motor saws.
Not all competitors are set up for both stock appearing and pipe saws, so this would target a larger crowd.

Maybe a bike motor hotsaw class is also something to consider if the level of sponsorship needed is achieved.

Someone needs to tell Honda what some of their motors are being used for so they can get their butts on board with sponsorship.

We are in the process of discussing sponsorships and how we can get more. The competition will be the same this year in 2018 but next year we will probably do little bit of restructuring to make it worth your while to come and compete. I would like to see around $100-$200 1st $50-$100 2nd and $25-$50 3rd for each class. But Its all still in the works, im just trying to get as much feedback and get it hyped up. I would like to see the forest festival come back from the brink and be one of the funnest most attended events on the gulf coast

Ohio show this year I took the wife to.

Add manual events like chopping bow sawing crosscut etc and bike saws will bring out the big dawgs. STS folks ;)

Kids axe throwing always brings extra spectators.
Women want to race saws too. I've noticed they tend to think this stuff is only set up for men.

Well we have the lumber jack events also, cross cut, axe throwing, standing block chop, spring board, etc.

I put this competition on every 3rd weekend in February for the last 20 years.
We started out with hot saws, stock appearing, obstacle pole buck, Grande Prairie precision cut.
Hot saws died out so I added bow saw, standing block chop
Always had a 1 hour speed carve , now we allow 4 hrs.

That all died out except the 4 hour carve.
Now for the last 15 years we have men's and women's speed cutting presently supplied with 550XP's. We take entries from the audience, sometimes we get 60 men and women who come up on stage. Big draw for our 70 year old festival.
The carving event runs alongside the speed cut.
I (Holmen Tree Service) built a fold up 2 log stand portable stage with PA system score board etc. 30ftx10ft and donated it to the festival.

Few pics of my event last year.
Last pic was about 3 years ago at minus -50 below strong windchill blowing hard on the stage wall.
We run 2- 8"x8"x16 ft on the log stands. 1 for a spare. Had 10x10" before these last years.
By the time the women finish not alot of wood left.

Couple videos of my event from about 5 years ago. First year for the 550s brand new right out of the boxes and she was -30 below windchill.
I'm the guy on the microphone helping out my 6 ft 6 inch SIL warm up his 550 as he was the first competitor up.
Video only shows half of the competitors as my camera men's batteries froze up.
Last video shows some pink I had to wear for the women's event dedicating breast cancer research.

Production hotsaw is usually 0_140cc..chainsaw based platform....Open hotsaw is bike motors but you can run a production saw in it too
Correct, and in a piece of 10" pine, I've seen the good, piped, 3120's beat the bike saws.
Big wood, different story. Lol.

I already built a YZ125 bike saw over 30 years ago. Still have it starting a rebuild on it.
But I got my attention on a 2010 YZ85 engine that I had in my hands recently.
Pretty impressed with the little bugger. Super light and tiny compact with case reed induction the whole shabang. Even got right hand drive.
Might have a new project on my hands as a 8"×8"/10"×10" warrior .

The stroked 3120's that run methanol and pipe right now are 140cc.
They impress the hell out of me every time our paths cross.
Hard customers to beat.

No doubt the 3120 a 30 year old design has had alot of tinkering done to them over the years.
Running them in 8x8 or 10x10 on alcohol almost sounds silly, especially running them with the Stihl .404 HT chain.
At this point it all boils down to the best cold start and cookie accuracy. ;)
