Hmmm... Is this a 288xp crankcase?

I have just recieved the NOS crankcase which the vendor says is for a 288xp:

But I notice it doesn't have the hole for the locating pin on the sprocket cover like this one (just above the oiler in the pic):

Has anyone ever come across a 288 without this hole?

I'd say its right. I have other Huskys from that era that do or don't have the hole. Has to do with plastic or mag cover.

Its was the same service bulleton that mentions the flywheel side case upgrade to 6203 bearing instead of 6202. What size bearing does your flywheel case use?

Both bearings are 6203. I do notice that the old metal flag sprocket cover doesn't have the pin so I'm guessing it's a very early 281/288 crankcase

I have seen one mabie 2 181 cases with big flywheel bearing. Very rare indeed as these were made just months before the introduction of 281 and 288

It's not built just yet...its on my to do list tho :). The one you see in the All things 288 thread is another one.

Sweet, there was a few parts saws for sale on trademe , I bought some bits. The crankcases were junk though.
