Guess I should have stated that. All the 031’s I have as parts saw had the Bosch and Bosch points to module required an advance and Bosch electronic to module required me to do nothing. Both saws been running limited use for about 2-2 1/2 years
I am assuming it bogs down when you try to throttle up? I don't think so, I am guessing it either needs a carb adjustment (low screw) or if the carb diaphragms are old and crispy, a new carb diaphragm kit. You can check the fuel filter to see the condition it is in a long with the spark arrestor in the muffler, if it is blocked with carbon then that can do it to...kind of like Eddie Murphy and the banana in the tail pipe thing.
Hey, that picture of what you thought was a module is the old condenser. I would put money on that condenser being bad. They were film-type capacitors that went bad with age. I fixed an 032 with a round-style condenser from a junked mini-mac. Mounted it on the coil bolt and spliced in wire to extend it out to there. The points are really not as much of a headache as people say they are. Just replace that condenser and put the points back on. Run a dollar bill between the points in closed position to give them a little polish. I bet it will work just fine.
Also, I should add that the ignition modules are just as iffy as the old film condensers. Don't bother with them, IMO. Yes, they are simple and they work at first, but some of them are pretty poorly constructed and known to fail or mess up timing.
