My side job shop used to have the 500 in stock pretty regularly, in fact we sold more of the guns than boxes of ammo for it. I would bet most of those are unfired to this day so you may want to sniff around for a used one. The chances of finding a .500 or .460 that has been shot loose or even just broken in are pretty remote.

Yes, I'm sure most of those guns are purchased by people just like me. Shoot it a few times a year and then just brag you own one the rest.

Probably not the hand cannon you are looking for. But two options that are highly shootable if you are experienced. And will make inexperienced shat themselves on occasion.

#1 coonan arms .357 1911.
#2 lone wolf 10mm long slide.

Run full power underwood through them and you will have a new appreciation on how other ammo is wattered down....

I ran a coonan .357 at a shoot that my cousin was having a while back. If he was still with the company I'd have one. Didn't have the coin back then. Sure wish I did though.

I actually built option two and still own it. You will feel it through your arm the next few days after shooting it. Incredibly potent and accurate. The underwood hard cast will make short work of most steel targets though. I carry that in the timber anymore due to the big cats taking up residence. Here kitty kitty kitty

In Illinois? I guess that NW Illinois is kind of hairy along the river & towards Wisconsin.

We have some bobcats but haven’t heard of or seen a big one in years.

Yes Sir. We have a resident right behind my dads house. Has been there three years or so. The dnr said it was a migratory cat and would move on....... Hasn't bothered anyone but is spooky as all hell finding deer parts in trees and stuff.

My dads place is prime big cat habitat. Big valleys, rock outcropings and lots of small river and streams and very few people.

I like recoil. I shoot a TON of .22lr and sometimes it's nice to experience power!
I've shot everthing handgun from .22short to 50ae and looking for something to make me say enough!
.475 Linebaugh is what you’re looking for.
I have a .475 Ruger that’s a handful but pales in comparison next to a Linebaugh.
If you’re looking for the ultimate Holy $hit experience, shoot a T/C Encore handgun in .338 Win Mag.

I have a buddy who bought a short barrel S&W .460. He bought a box of light bullet ammo to go with it. The factory loads were girl loads. I gave him some of my 250gr hard cast .454 loads to shoot. He was amazed at the difference in recoil.

I really want to stay away from uncommon rounds since I don't reload. I don't really shoot any center fire so i don't think it would be worthwhile yet to invest in reloading equipment.

Who makes a budget friendly revolver in 475 linebaugh? Around 1200-1400.

Ive been doing some more thinking and I believe the 460 is the best choice for me. Put some 45 colt in it so my daughter will shoot it and then load the big girl loads in it to vaporize a cabbage!

I remember reading a big article in a Guns & Ammo magazine decades ago (‘88-‘89 timeframe) about the .475 Linebaugh when it came out. It was the hand cannon from hell back in those days, well surpassing the .454 Casull.

Ohh boy...... Dare I ask what they are up to now? Might make me sick..... I could have bought a pair of conservative sn# pistols and four mags each for I believe $1900.

Wholy chit...........

Not worth that.

My cousin was a big part of their company restart and got forced out after he got things sorted out. Raw deal. The new guy in charge must be a real piece of work if he's wanting that much!

For what you want, the .460 is probably the best choice. For a guy who doesn’t reload, the ability to shoot .45 Colt is a big advantage.
.475 Linebaugh revolvers are costly. I don’t know of any in the price range you’re looking.

The .500 Linebaugh is the new king of the hill. My .475 Ruger, heavy loaded with a 412 gr cast bullet is all I care to shoot. Anything more is just no fun, at least for me.

Looks like anything within your area code is dead right there!

I get excited when I make an inch at 150 with my 700 ADL in 6.5 Creedmoor. I love this cartridge, its perfect for someone who is marksmanship challenged like the guy I see in the mirror. It's even more funner with reloads. 32 grains IMR 8208 under a 140 grain Sierra is perfect in my rifle. Thinking about adding a Savage 110 to the battery at some point.
