I was testing a new bar and chain combo with a 10 pin on the Rupley 064 Pipe saw and something wasn't quite right. It ran stock chain perfectly both before and after.
The video shows the chain not riding in the rail for about half the cut.
I need to fix two buggered drive links on the chain.
I also need to buy a new pair of chaps.
Any suggestions on protective and light weight?
I only cut for fun, but these Forester chaps turn me into a sweaty beast in about 2 minutes.

The chain looks silly loose in that video for sure.
I was running just fast saws getting them ready for Geniusfest next weekend.
I thought the tension was right, but none of the other videos of other saws show that kind of slop so I think I didn't tension it properly :(

And of course I set up the camera wrong so all my vids are slo -mo.
If you feel like wasting another seven seconds this is video of a few sub 1.5 second saws superimposed making a cut in slo-mo.

I think my chaps are 5-7 layers of kevlar. Cool chaps and ones that will protect your flesh from near 100cc pipesaws with big sprockets don't go in the same sentence very well. I have the Stihl protective pants & they are pressure cooker hot. Chaps are the coolest option IMO but Dave we think your pretty cool no matter what you wear.

Man. I can't lie... I didn't even watch the video before I posted.
That was like a chaps/leg model commercial all in one. It was a bit reminiscent of the old Marlboro man ads.

This is too funny :)
In the video I actually turn towards the camera and slap my thigh a couple of times.
I wasn't doing it for the camera but was thinking at the time "sweet, these $35 chaps just saved me from having to go to the ER".
When I watched the video later I saw it and cringed, in slo-mo I look like a tremendous douche-bag .
"I'm Dave and these pussy-ass little race chains cant hurt me cause I have thighs of iron, yee haw".
If I posted the next two seconds I would never be able to show my face around here again :)

Glad you are OK Dave. Really demonstrates the value of chaps!

Like others have said. More protective chaps are hotter: more layers, full wrap, etc. Not wearing chaps equals zero protection, so get something that you will wear.

I have full-wrap chaps for heavy cutting, but also apron (front only) chaps worn with suspenders, for hotter days, and when doing less risky work. Easier to take off at breaks to cool down.

From the video it looks like you were running without a clutch cover? That would have also have helped to control the chain once it jumped the guide bar.

Yeah it had a mini cover, to hold the bar on.
I switched out to a flyweight plastic cover after this happened and will give it some relief for chip clearance but wont go as far as the one in the video.
The chain was actually laying in the pile of chips when it came off.
I ordered some husky chaps on Amazon so I have something before the GTG and will check two local dealers who carry OPE for something better today.
I will order the labonville competition chaps but cant get them in time for this weekend.

The PPE are in three categories

1 ) 28m / second
2 ) 24m / second
3 ) 20m / second

so with two words if your chainsaw are modified and the chain can run more of theese three categories is like to wear napkins or newspapers

Glad that the Dave is ok
