A final score of 76-0 is a damn disgrace!!!! Of course I do not know the specifics but from the surface I believe both coaches need to step down or be terminated immediately. I assume Tennessee does not have a "mercy rule". In Illinois it used to be 50 points but has now changed to 35 points. In the first half it is a normal game. At the end of the first half if one team is up by 35 points or more there is a running clock in the second half. If at the end of the first half the point differential is less than 35 but during the second half if a team goes up by 35 then it becomes a running clock.
If the coach of the team up by 35 is worth his salt he will put his players in the game that do not get to see a lot of varsity playing time. Of course some coaches have a brain of manure and leave the starters in just to pad their records, run the score up, and earn playoff points based on the end of season point differential.
On the other side the coach of the team down by 35 or more should do the same. He needs to put some younger kids in (as long as the opposing team does also). When the score gets too far out of hand it is time to call a time out, tell an official it is over, walk across the field, and shake the opposing coach's hand.
Now I am not saying once a lead gets to 35 the game is over but common sense has to rule. I have seen way too many games where coaches make decisions that harm kids and dammit these are kids!!!!
