That looks like a decently-sized doug fir! I know that Caz highway, or really anywhere out on the river, can be a mess in bad storm.

We had some pretty impressive winds last night, I kept waiting for one of my pines to come crashing through the bedroom...luckily no carnage for me though. One of my neighbors had a good sized cedar snap off and narrowly miss his truck The branches probably just brushed his truck and his house was on the other size of that.

Here's a short vid from me driving around the lower sierra foothills last week, luckily my house is further up in the mountains and at zero risk for flooding.
Holy smokes lots of water. Yes Cazadero is a handful in the storms

Yup! Years ago, I had an all wheel drive forwarder type rig that had a small log loader on the back with a nice rotating grapple that made work a breeze. I used it for CTL logging and everything else you can think of...plowing snow, loading scrap steel, moving brush..anything. I miss that rig!

I am clearing some trees for firewood and there is a bunch of brush, branches etc and with my old forwarder rig I could have cleared the whole thing in a day with a lot less effort than I am by hand. Even though I am under no time pressure cutting the trees etc I still stop and think how much easier and quicker doing it (especially all the brush and limbs) with the log loader with the nice grapple would be. No comparison...none at all.

I like your method! Way to go. Machines, and knowing how to use them, make all the difference in the world.

Plus your method is safer.

I bought my Stihl 440 in 2007. I brought it home from the Stihl dealer and started cutting firewood on a pile I had been cutting up. I still remember the wood chips blasting on my leg and buzzing through that wood. Wow! I still get that feeling 16 years later!

You have great taste in saws...looking good!

That's awesome and saw still going strong? I had a 044 for years loved it. Many big jobs, before I had more saws.

I am sure it has lost some power over the years, just like me, but it definitely gets the job done.

Ran the Stihl 440 full blast on tree length firewood making them into 3" thick cookies because we had snow coming. Got it all cut up just as the snow started falling (one of many times the weather has made me hustle). I was sure glad to get that cutting done and sure glad the 440 blasted through them.

I bought 10 new loops of chisel chain and 6 gals of bar oil plus I had gals of fuel all ready so that I could just go full bore on firewood cutting for myself this season. Sure felt good to be done and bring the saw in and even better when I saw we got about 12" of wet heavy snow that night and next day. A few days later and we got 60mph winds and heavy rain that washed it all away. New England weather!
