Yesterday had the pleasure of 3 crews with me. Pictures don't do justice, but brushy dead tall tan oak, hazard removed.

I have numerous new and old saws, and like them all. My 2 ported M-Tonic 462s are hard to beat in the power to weight dept, and my MOFO ported Hybrid pulls like a freight train in hardwood with 28" B+C. I will often use the 462s for hardwood up to 20" (they are very fast, light, responsive, smooth and have clean filter tech) and the Hybrid for larger stuff.

All 3 have great power to weight. The 462s are as light as many 60 cc saws and stronger than most 77 cc saws, and no screwdriver needed. They are very pleasant to use on a regular basis.
The darn little screwdriver I carry for my good old Stihl 440 weighs a ton. I have to be careful not to hurt myself adjusting those screws. Haha.

I said I would get a 462 when the 440 gives out. No sign of the 440 giving out. Just bought 10 loops of 20" full chisel chain for it and cutting firewood as usual.

Have to hustle to get tree length out off the hill outback and where I can cut it up anytime because we already had snow and too slippery on the hill .

My 044 is a modified Red Lever saw that runs very strong (it has beat ported 044s), but my ported 462s are lighter, faster, smoother, don't need tuning and don't need the air filter cleaned every time you use it. I bought my 044 new in Dec 92, it was my only saw for 18 years and I will never get rid of it, but the 462s win hands down.

Those 44s and 440s are hard to beat

Haven't run a 462 yet, only 461s and 500i I hear great things about the 462 though.

Yep, I've built some strong running 044s, I even own a couple...they're badazz saws, but I'll take the 400, 462, 500i any day of the week. After my recent modifications to the 500, that saw is kinda looking like a replacement for my 066.

The tanoaks are no joke, IMO one of the most dangerous trees to cut in CA...there is often no structural integrity in those trees whatsoever.

View attachment 356102. It must be nice to not be on a hill and deal with snow! You have nice trees.

I'm just lucky right now...the weather has been pretty nice this last week...before that, it was cold and snowy. These trees were just down the street from me, so flattish ground...when I was house shopping, I wanted a mostly flat, usable property. I do have to deal with my share of hills, but lately it's been easy cutting.

Thanks, I really like the native trees here. These are ponderosa pine, which are the 2nd largest species of pine tree. We also have the largest species of pine, which is sugar pine. These particular trees aren't anything special in size, but I've seen some monsters out in the backcountry.
