Speed line ftw!I Had a decent job lined up for last Tuesday & Wednesday with Thursday being cleanup day: 5 pines, 1 ugly sweet gum & 1 Poplar.
I Made arrangements with a Contract Climber over the weekend, & then he called back stating his climbing buddy & a ground man are available, & why not turn this 2 day climbing job into a 1 day climbing job: I agreed.
We arrived to the site & started walking the scope: immediately I start getting pushback from climber #2 about
1. he doesn’t like my plan,
2. where’s the chipper?,
3. that tree is a hazard tree..
So I asked him what he wanted to change.
1. He stated they work alongside a chipper& don’t like piling brush on the ground.
I explained to him my Chipper man would be on site the next day to chip what we would put on the ground the 1st day: he didn’t approve.
We then discussed the hazard tree, a pine that had been struck by lightning.
I acknowledged it had issues & my intent was to have him tie in to the adjacent pine with the climbing line & spur the hazard tree. They both said that if the hazard tree gave way, whomever was climbing it would break their back in the pendulum swing.
I then asked them how they would like to do it: #2 said they work with a chipper & they are not going to do it like I asked them.
I said ok, how do you want to do it?
Which trees can we start on instead?
Long story short,
All 3 of them walked off the job.
Mind you this entire discussion took place in the customer’s back yard with the customer present.
It’s not that I can’t climb, I’m just slow as smoke when I climb: that’s why I hired the climbers in the first place.
So,
Crane
Me
I was told a Speed Line wouldn’t work on this job.

What a dandy. One from this morning. I was helping Annapolis crew, not my handy work on the cutting though.Widest spot on that oak was like 64" ifn I remember rite.
Solid as can be-cept 4ft at the base.
When the root base flipped back over-the ground SHOOK! wouldnt want to B in the way that's for sure.
@hseII
Go watch them work before you even ask about hiring a climber. I wasted my time doing just what you did twice. Next time I asked to watch them climb. You can be on your way down the road in ten minutes when you do or don't see skills, ability and rapid movement. My time has come for a two to three hour day again, beats none. Old and/or slow with mad skills sucks. Young, able, slow and lazy is much worse.
Wow that's impressiveNice tree. Wonder how old it is?
Saw in paper they recently found a bald cypress in NC that was 2600+ yrs old. I think it might be one of the oldest living trees they've found.
Been great Amigo, u? Thanks yes been fortunate in our area view and air!
Hanging in Norm. Going back to work part time but looks like a long weekend flying a lift to pick down a monster red oak over a house.Been great Amigo, u? Thanks yes been fortunate in our area view and air!

I dumped all this at my house today, gonna make good firewood.
About a 6 hour job.
4 more to go at the same house.
That thing is sweet! We buck everything that doesn't get chipped to around 7ft if it's not too heavy and drive it into the roll off..works perfect.
The kubota is nice for big stuff but the PT-425 we use is the shizzz for residental trees.
