With all do respect, Niko has helped me several times with questions on my husky's and J-reds, as far as the Echo's go, I'm with Kevin on this one, I feel, and I'm sure many others do as well, that Echo isn't really trying to be the best "Pro" saw out there, but rather a good/great saw for the money, period, I own several, and currant model Echo saws (though a few aren't so currant any more) that I have experience with (and there's many more I still haven't had the chance to try out) that really are worth buying would be the CS400, 510/ 520/530 and the 590P, this ONLY based on what your getting, how well they run, and how much they cost.

Looked at a few husqys today 445 450 460 and they've got some sharp edges on their plastic, I almost cut my fingers off! There was a remington outlaw sitting next to them now that saw had some nice smooth edges. As far as plastic toughness I couldn't tell you I've never had the privilege to throw any of those. I have had the privilege of throwing a ryobi saw about 30 feet and it has very tough plastic. Niko is alright and it's kind of odd that echo doesn't list power specs for the us even Chinese saw copy companies give power specs for the US market.

Echo runs the same dl counts as old homelite and poulan. They chose to be on the 'Murican side instead of with Stihl and husky. Hell, bars even crossed over for the most part. My guess is that they still stay that way just to keep bars/chains universal across the years.

I don't care what poop talk ppl say about echo and so called sluggish whimpy performance. my good old chit ripping 360t is a torque monster work horse that I run the livin crap out of, everyday.
I love my echo 360t. not ported. just some intake and exhaust work.

Echo is an extremely arrogant brand, that has nothing to be arrogant about.

Very low power specs are the norm (where they are available to see), and even their best efforts (501SX and 620SX) fail to really deliver pro class power for the size. The 620 is close on paper though, but not when actually compared to the 560xp.

The 501 firmly belongs in the "semi-pro" class regarding performance, not in the "pro" class, according to the only reasonably unbiased testing I have seen - the 620 is closer to pro class (unless the tank assembly breaks, as it tends to do, around where the handlebar attaches to it),

I've never bought a bad saw and you're not going to convince me i have in the echo i have three years on the 590 two on the 490 stripped the chain tensioner on the 590 they mailed me a free one the 590 usually has a 24 inch bar and gets used more than my larger saws. I have bought new husqvarna stihl and alpina saws over the years and the echos get used more than any of my other saws and they are not lacking for power it's fine if you don't like them but you show me any other new saw for 300.00 shipped to my door that can perform like them.

I think maybe my old friend Niko just hates the Japs. lol

If you really pay attention to what Niko is saying,(and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, @SawTroll ) it's more about the propaganda so to speak, from the company itself. For myself I would use lever B, instead of lever A, as there really is not too much here to be offended about. Just sayin'.
Everybody go out and have fun with whatever saw you have, cause that's what we're here for.

Well this spring at a county fair in mn I raced against a 355t you built and both the jap saws took out the rest of the competition in the top handle class. I heard his 355t fire up and that sounded pissed off

It has a lot to do with the brands attitude and marketing, but also the generally very low power output and often lacking ergonomics + the typical Japanese total lack of "taste" (has been getting better lately though) - they don't seem to have any respect for the costumers.

That said, with the pricing they do on some markets (typically the US, but absolutely not here), some of their mag cased models surely are good alternatives to plastic cased clamshell designs from other brands.
