Here we will ask Niko to post Echos lackluster specs for the world to see.

@SawTroll the floor is yours sir. Tell us how terrible Echo specs are. The world needs to know.

The basic problem here is of course that Echo is refusing to post any power specs in North America.

As many will suspect, the reason is quite simple - the numbers mainly are embarrassing to them - the excuse that "it doesn't mean anything" is totally lame - and the reason for low power outputs are engine porting, carbs and mufflers (mostly) as usual - there aren't any "magic" going on.

The specs I link up are the European ones, as the brand want to keep the specs secret in North America (I assume it is because they are embarrassing, most of them are, but I don't know for sure if that is the true reason). The NA specs may well be lower than what I post for EPA reasons, but I don't know that as a fact either , these are the European specs; http://www.echotools.com/products/category/

Fwiw @SawTroll , the 620 I ran this weekend cut right with, and at times even bested my MS361 (and you know how much I love that saw) and the 620 was on its first tank of fuel. Same 20" chain. My 361 has all the epa stuff defeated (muffler gutted and modded, limiters removed) and is a super strong saw. Whether or not echo post's there specs is a non issue.

They make power. Period....

Interesting, probably the non publishing is a deliberate strategy. This actually says more about the mentality of "Joe" public than the quality of the saws.

HP isn't the saws ability to do work, torque is. HP is how fast it can do the work, assuming the load requirement is not greater than the torque at a given point.

Echo's design philosophy is presumably torque based rather than HP. How well that is implemented varies with each saw.

I would really love to see a pic of the cs 1201 transfers. Very interesting seeing diff between a 166 and an 084

Niko have you actually fondled an echo saw? I didn't notice when I ran the 490, but I wasn't look big for it either...

Yes, a couple of years ago a so-called dealer turned up close to where I live - I don't think he has sold any saws though, as he still has the same ones in the shop, and I can't help him (I wouldn't anyway, because he tried to rip me off on snow-blower service - but that didn't work).

Someone had to have the exeption from the general rule of course, and the 620SX sort of is. Power specs are the same as the US version of the MS361 (but not as the Euro one) - and it stops right there - is it really a good sign that a saw may be comparable to another one that is over deade older? Of course it isn't, there are better 60 cc saws than the US version of the 361 out there, and the 620 simply isn't one of them. It is a model that is promoted by some members for obscure reasons (likely that it is relatively cheap in the US). It isn't a top performer in the 60cc class today, even though it is Echos very best effort in that regard.

They are able to make "almost" saws (after the merger with Shindaiwa, that is) - but they still are decades behind in technology and design.

If you like them that way, fine - but you likely aren't running many stock saws anyway.

Most people run stock saws, not more or less modified ones.

"Talking" the Echo saws into being something they aren't, and helping the brand keep the low power output of most of the models secret, doesn't help people that look for information on forums like this - it is misleading them

If I took to heart everything said here on the forums about the model saws that I personally own, I would freeze to death come winter time. Every last one of them has been bashed at one time or another. Even the best saws ever made have stones being thrown at it at a record rate from those who don't have one. Feeling a bit passionate about these things is why we're here in the first place. There's lots more threads than this one here to find a place where your passion lies. At some point ya just have to walk away pick up your saw and go out and cut wood, which is what it is all about in the first place. I hope everyone can fit in and function here, as I consider each and every last one of you my friend, even if you don't like my saws. Also I've had way more brothers and sisters here bend over backwards to help me than ones that dogged on my choice of saw. Well, I feel better for ranting on a bit, have a great day yourself.

Niko. You really are beating a dead horse that no one but you cares about.

That could be - but the fact is that the brand is deceiving people with their very liberal use of the word "professional", at the same time as they don't provide power specs (in North America).

If nobody but me cares, that is of course a problem - as it means that the deception mostly is successful.

Sir, You are correct and Echo would call that marketing. Deceiving as it may be, I doubt it will change. Hit us with specs for the strongest made 50cc, 60cc, 70cc, 80cc and above made and let us start a new debate.

Firewood folks are about bang for the buck in cc etc. ;) Why I buy and build the poulan and echo brands.

All the ones I have run, cut with the top 3 for about a 1/3 of the cost. Some slower some faster. ;)
