In other words, the buyers have no taste!

Come on! It is just market’s main driving force.
Actually some buyers do have taste - I see most pictures with lightweight solid bars on all saws coming from the very same market. ;)

An Echo CS670 followed me home the other day. She has a scored piston. If I’m buying a top end anyway, is the 670 jug the only one in that family? Would an 8000 top end bolt on? I know very little about Echo.

Anybody seen the new Echo CS-4910? Supposed to be very light, the parts list suggests it is not a clamshell.

CS-4910

Anyone put hands on it yet? Curious how it compares to the 501p.

Different oil pump, cover on the plug wire is different, the bar plates are lower quality too, they say the same crank, I oddly had three of the 501 saws and think there was a nut on the end of the shaft, could be wrong there though, had a few saws in that size.
They also don't have the P after the number like 501P had, echo seem to succumbing to corporate pressure
to produce cheaper saws to boost profits, but the 501 621 and 7310 are still pro grade, lets hope they stay
that way, I would say they are a good saw, but if your going to run it every day I would go for the 501P.
Even in their advertising the small saws like the 352 were described as pro built, don't see this in the newer
model descriptions. But I doubt too that Echo would make a bad saw, that is how you loose customers and profits.

Echo's non-pro saws are still way ahead of most others. My CS-400 is a quality machine, no question about it.

P typically stands for “professional cutting equipment” - higher end Blount bar (exceptions are models like 2511 & 361 as in US they don’t use “WES” designation for horizontal engine rear handle chainsaw).
4910 is simplified specification 501 without part QC downgrade as Yamabiko simply does only have one QC/tolerance/durability standard (hence “professional grade”).

And that I fully agree with, and sure hope they don't change. I have a longing
for a 60 cc saw, Echo is high on the list, though would be second if Makita
hadn't dropped the ball, the Makita is a fair bit cheaper here for a 60cc saw than Echo, and they are reliable, so its either Echo or Oleo Mac here, there are other less popular brands, just found a brand call Active from Italy, nice runners, 5.8kg for their 62.62 model, but they are too high in price for what is an unknown brand with not many outlets, would love to try one, but it could end up being a collectors item in a shot time, parts won't abound either like the more popular manufacturers.

I thought I read somewhere that Active is from Poland? Those are nice looking saws, wish they would come to the USA.

It wouldn't surprise me, it is still much cheaper to make a product in Poland as opposed to Italy, or may be they are a china outfit with base elsewhere, all the contact details are in Italy though, not to worry, I can/t see me giving 650.00 euro for a 60 cc one, when for another 200 there are saws with backup close at hand. Am curious though to know what they are like inside, if they were made like the Pro line Emak saws they should last a while, those Oleo Mac 962 saws are about a long time now.

Their top handle saws (and the small rear handle) are chinese ECHO copies.
Same story should be with the big ones - Italy has the only two stroke manufacturer Emak (Oleo-mac/Efco) which is going out of the 2-stroke game before the next emission regulations kick in.

Geez, that's lame of them to put "made in Italy" proudly across the top of their page when a large portion of their saws are Chicom.
