Got it togeather and a quick test fire. Hopfully test it on an ash log tomorrow evening. My son was pretty happy when he heard his basket case saw fire up.

Finally got my 650evl cleaned up and together...here are the pics.

Just need to find a “Kioritz Echo” decal for the clutch cover.

I got it tore apart again. The fuel tank seam is leaking. I put some permatex motoseal on the seam so hope it works. Was a good idea for echo to make a tank that coms apart. At least it can be fixed. Now my son thought he would help and stripped the one screw with the wrong size philips screwdriver grrrrr. And try to get the screw out i broke a peace off the screw hole. Jope it works or he will be buyin a new tank.

A 2 piece tank doesn't sound like the best design in the world..... especially when Murphy's law is applied. Hopefully it seals up and starts making wood chips.

I thought the two piece tanks were a thing of the past....
Guess echo is a little behind on that.

They stopped making gray saws in the early 2000's, so maybe Echo has changed the design since then.

Doesnt look like anybody is too interested in buying my CS-500P, not that it hurts my feelings or anything. I think I'm gonna put one of those sexy Tsumura bars on it. Which one might fit it? Saw is .325/.050 with 18" bar and 72 DL. The T385ZR2 looks awfully close.

Encountered some weirdness in the 500P today. Was cutting on a stump, and it was quite rich and kept dieing on me. This saw doesnt have many hours on it, and never acted like this before. Gave it a quick inspection and didn't find anything amiss. Just out of curiosity, I checked the carb settings. Factory settings are 1-1/2 turns low, 3-1/8 turns high. Turns out the low side was like 4 turns out! I reset it to factory and richened the high a bit, and she went back to normal. Strange, strange, strange.

Yep.

Usually those pumps were punched with a set of corresponding marks on the nut and case from the factory. They were around 3/4 turn out from seated and was the set point at the approx max flow when servicing for new o-rings etc. Turned out from there reduced flow. The range was kept within ends with the limiter. All the earlier VL and first gen EVL with the adjustment knobs worked like that. FWIW, I ended up pulling the knob on an early 302 and backed the pump out beyond the factory setting. That pump design throughout many saws was ridiculously healthy. The 302 slobbered like a 750. The only pump specs calling for greater flow than the piston style was the one unique to the 601/701. Gushers.

You can also observe the discharge at the pad at modest RPM. Turning the pump in should increase flow until 3/4-1/2 turn out from seated. Closer should taper off. Turning it out beyond 3/4 or so should see a decrease until the pump disengages from the lobe. Find the sweet spot in the middle of your desired range and set the mid point of the limiter to correspond.

Come to think of it, when setting up the pump on my 701, there was a point where the oil was shooting from the pad and making a puddle a foot away from the saw.
