ECHO 1001 VL.

PTO side nut no longer has any threads.

I'm having a heck of a time locating a replacement; any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'm mostly working on smaller saws for local hombres getting ready to cut firewood. the only thing close to a toast job is a husky 340. it ran great when it came in, after i replaced the broken, ethanol damaged fuel line. then i found out that the guy before me had screwed up the oil tank by using non-standard bar studs. the whole side of the case was distorted and wouldn't oil. i found a new plastic "crankcase" and swapped everything over. the ring looked a bit worn but it had good compression when i took it apart. when i put it back together it had 30psi. first time that's happened to me. i ordered a 50cc kit from hutzl, should be here in a week or so. could have bought the same saw on ebay for less but now everything will be new, might last another 15 years if it doesn't get straight gassed or left with fuel in it all winter.

'zup with you?
Oh been working my butt off and got out to the saw races on sat. My Lil 360t took the win on top handle saws. Other than that just staying out of troubles way.

Just got my uncle's 702vl to work on. Want to get it cleaned up and in good working order for him. Needs some tlc and a few parts. Are any of these sites a good online source for echo parts?

Rcpw.com
Echopartstore.com
Ereplacementparts.com

Thanks

I've used RCPW.com. If Echo still has it, they seem to be able to get it. Lots of stuff for the older saws is NLA though. Hit and miss it seems.

Anyone know the differences between the 702vl saws posted above and the one pictured here? I'm hoping its just cosmestic changes, caps, decals etc...

And other than the bow:)

The EVL were later models with electronic 2-piece ignitions. VL were points ignitions. VL is the "vibeless" terminology used for the lineup. Aside from that, the cs-702vl and the cs-702evl are the same mechanically.

The electronic ignitions had a higher failure rate unfortunately. They are difficult to find (used) and even more costly to obtain.

The main change in that saw occurred with the transition from the cs-701vl to the cs-702vl. Different design (oil pump/av/case/handles etc.)

The 702vl should prove to be a robust, smooth, dependable and moderately powered cutter. Their robust design along with the moderate power may have something to do with the longevity. If equipped with a floating rim, consider an 8-pin on a 20" bar for cutting. They are not fast but pull well enough to handle it. The 702 should chew through the rounds with a steady, measured confidence. Plus, they sound pretty darn fine idling and even better with the unique "whistle" when they wind up.

Ok so no major changes between early or later models in the 702vl series other than cosmetics. Excluding the Evl option

Sadly for the echo believers what the troll says is true, the upside is that they merged with shindaiwa which produces a much better product. Echo have products that are good but not a complete range that is good. They are well behind the eightball with emission compliant engines and are not leading in any useful technologies. Having said that I have a top handle 23cc makit made by Yamabiko Japan and its dead reliable and I use it a lot. Max unloaded rpm is 10k, but it does the job. A ms150 makes a good 30% more power but is 4x the price. If the 590/600 series echoes cost what huskies & stihls did, would you still buy one?

Are you sure that Yamabiko make the 231t? I have one & it bears absolutely no resemblance to any of my Echo gear, it looks very much like a Zenoah to me?

IMO a fairer comparison between an MS150 & an Echo would be with the 2510t. I notice that Stihl Aust have dropped the price of the 150t down to exactly the price of a 2510t (double dipper cash back promo). Everything I've read says that the 2510t eats the 150t at work.
