I found a large carb that drops right in for race purposes but isn’t suitable for work and making an air filter possible.

490 piston is an interesting thought

Is it 44 mm? What is the pin to crown measurement? Piston overall length?

I have the older 500P that came before it. Won't win any races but will do anything you could ever ask a 50cc saw to do. My only real gripe is that it makes a metallic pinging noise at idle, which I have read is a common complaint. But, for half the cost of an MS-261 or 550 I can live with it!

Grease the drum bearing and report back. I guess that’s not the end of the world.

It won't stop making this noise if you grease the drum bearing. The noise won't stop mo matter what someone do.Personally i don't mind that noise, iin fact I likke it.This noise gives these echos a unique personality.

I "think" I greased the bearing as part of the usual inspection when I first got it, I 'spose it would be a good idea to do it again.

I wish they had better/bigger bearings on the pto side.... pretty easy to load the saw enough to stall it if you get the chain in a little bind.... I have played extensively with the 490 which is the older version with removable transfer plates.

My 545 does that too. It's not loud but I did notice it.

Been cooking this one up for a hot minute, I wish I could say it was easy, but that would be a massive lie. Woods ported 4910’s seem to be nearly identical to most 346 I’ve seen, race saws time will tell, come Chardon I plan to find out. Needs more raker and better operator…

I wouldn’t say it’s up to par with a well ported 346 but I made some solid gains on this 4910

The one I have that @Red97 ported seems happiest with square ground .325 chain and an 8 pin. I tried my 3/8” square on mine for bit and it cut fine, just was slower.

Very impressive gains Shaun! I agree that they are pretty impressive little saws too. My 501p (4910 “pro” version) echo has held up like a champ to all sorts of abuse over the past 3-4 years. It’ll probably pick up another 5ish % as it breaks in. These saws have a notoriously long break in. I gotta agree with @farminkarman these saws like .325 square the best.

It seems to handle 3/8's pretty well. I don't own any .325 setups to test with, I've never liked .325.

Same, and I’ve never tested with 18 or 20, but even a stock 346 was faster in 14” cherry with 60DL 3/8 over 66DL .325. 4910 doesn’t love the 3/8 stock but they run it well ported imo.
