Maybe he just hasn’t run as crappy of a chainYep, I sure did.
Maybe he just hasn’t run as crappy of a chainYep, I sure did.
You can send me some of the chain so I can compare them to the cheapy chain that I have.Yep, I sure did.
I used Forester and some other cheaper cheaper chains and really didn't have any trouble with them other than they needed to be sharpened and I really wasn't trying to ruffle his feathers but I guess he was having a bad day. LolGuys, don't get in each others hair over cheap chains!
Calm down and have a cold one.
@Colonel 428 , I most of all here dislike cheap chain no matter how much I would love to buy them at half or even one thirds the price of brand name products.
I keep giving them a chance, but so far they all perform below average with Oregon LGX/LPX (Dolmar 099) setting the base line.
On many occasions I keep being reminded by my own purchasing choices that when "I buy cheap, I buy twice".
I am certain @MG porting was only trying to help!
Quite often the written word does not get through the WWW as it was meant to.
I thought it odd when You wrote about seized links, hence my prior post.
But now that You let off some steam and wrote more details I would reply "You got what You paid for" - which again can be taken offensive by You, even though it is not meant to be.
Cheers,
W.
Yeah it always fires me up when people disrespect the ones who make life easier on them and give them the freedom to to stupid stuff like that.I used to listed this stuff.....
Nowadays listening this would make me even more aggressive than I already am.
If all four loops of the same make & model seized up on him he might have gotten a faulty batch. There's a few things that he could do that may help him with his cheap chains soak them in ATF for a week before using them heck you never know that could help get them link pins a good cleaning before they get some heat put to them it would be worth a shot for him to try.
My concern is more focused toward cheap chains coming apart and burying a cutter somewhere counterproductive, or wrapping the loop around my hand...one badly spun rivet or bad batch of steel...Oh so untrue. Cheap chain that ends up being unusable due to links freezing up is garbage and just a waste of money.
Very true.If all four loops of the same make & model seized up on him he might have gotten a faulty batch.
It IS possible, there is next to no product quality control nowadays.
Yep I've got a couple chains that are kryptonite to a file but they stay sharp for a long time but when they need to be sharpened it's a "b" for sure.My concern is more focused toward cheap chains coming apart and burying a cutter somewhere counterproductive, or wrapping the loop around my hand...one badly spun rivet or bad batch of steel...
Major manufacturers have a reputation to protect and have a wide safety margin. "Just in from China" sold as "More Expert Better You Chain" and "Expert Blue Chain Pro Chainsaw Chain"...maybe not so much, and what they make tomorrow might not be what they're making today.
I'm hand-filing new Oregon chain and it's not like previous Oregon chain, some cutters are really, really soft; some have hard chrome deposits and the file skates and will not sharpen the tooth, ... maybe I got a bad batch of chains (which hasn't happened before), don't know. I'll see how they run over their lifetime and go from there.
But yeah, getting chain from Traverse Creek or HL Supply where people care about what they're selling is better than eBay in my book. Haven't had links tighten up or freeze (other than when a chain is thrown and damaged), but understand what @Colonel 428 is saying; I wonder what's causing that?
Unfortunately the chrome deposits I wound up with are in the side cutters (and not toward the outer edge) and not in the top cutter (it shines like a mirror). Your comment sparked the thought I have a couple diamond files "just in case," may have to give them a shot--thanks.Yep I've got a couple chains that are kryptonite to a file but they stay sharp for a long time but when they need to be sharpened it's a "b" for sure.
All I do is hand file I've noticed that the Stihl round files are crap nowadays so I've been getting my 7/32 form my local Napa parts store they seem to last for quite a while there a little bit more price wise but worth it.P.S.:
I never imagined how much of a blessing a grinder will be for my chain sharpening needs.
And it is not even an expensive grinder I own.
Though it's NOT a cheap hardware store/supermarket unit either!
I actually had one of those, DO NOT GO THAT ROUTE!
