I had a drill doctor. No way in hell is there a quicker device ever produced for me to destroy my drill bits with...I'm fully aware it was 100% user error. Just could not get it to work right with my arthritic hands I guess.

Once you learn to grind them by hand, you'll never reach for the jig again.

I did try to grind without and failed miserably. Hopefully this jig will be the answer, even if in the short term. Would be like sharpening chainsaw chains. For a year I used a bench mounted grinder, then one day thought to try freehand again. Soon after I sold the grinder. It was money well spent as it was the bridge to carry me over the rookie mistakes.

I thought they were too pricey and took a pass on the drill doctor.

Mine paid for itself the first day. After that I started buying quality bits at estate sales for $1 ea and making them good as new. Tiny bits are very difficult, however, and I often just hand sharpen those.

OMG! that thing looks like it will take your hand off if not put together on the angle grinder correctly.

I used to sell Drill Drs at our family owned tool store and I dont think the work either.
Hand sharpening is the way to go and takes seconds if the bit is not totally flat.

Look at the bit closely to find how you failed, you can correct it from there.
There are some good vids on YT for grinding bits.
It's another thing in life that you can learn that no one can take away from you.

I can hand sharpen bits but with my shop I prefer not to as they are for customers. tried a drill doctor many years ago but just wasn't up to snuff commercially. although it did do a pretty good job of splitting points. Now days I have a pair of Black diamond units ( up to 3/4") and a Sellers 6G ( up to 3.5" ) A lot of the stuff I get to resharpen are Morse tapers on the back end.

Drill jig is now in Los Angeles. I'm getting anxious to see if this tool attachment will live up to my expectations. I have one seriously damaged drill bit from trying to hand sharpen on the bench grinder. It will be the ultimate test.

Wait that only applies in the northern hemisphere. Below the equator everything spins backwards 🤔 so wouldn’t the drill & bits go the other way?. . . . . 🤪
That applies only to Aussies!
