If I were to buy a new 7910, I might end up going for the 7310 out of curiosity. I’m guessing there is little to no difference unless your in big wood. Any insight on the 7300/7310?

@huskyboy that's what I just received a 7300. Specs for the old 7300 say 5.7 hp so I'm guessing/hoping their close. I have read you can't tell a difference until you slap on a 28
Most here know that I am very partial towards this saw family and as my signature indicates I own a 7300, a 7310 and a 7900, all muffler modded but otherwise completely stock.

I don't yet have much run time on my PS-7300 so I will refain from commenting other than saying she's freaking fast, very high in cut rpm's - which might be a result from the carb limiters not having been removed.

Right now my PS-7310 is head on with my PS-7900 regarding the WOW factor, this was not the case prior to the muffler mod though.

From a long time back over on AS I remember a porter silently posting that he belives that the 50mm/73cc P&C of the PS-7300 better suits the saws crank case volume.
I can not comment whether that is true or not, but I can imagine it to be true.

I have multiple videos up on YouTube featuring my saws with various B&C setups, feel free to compare the saws performances.

On the 7310 and 7910 the SLR tube needs to be removed, it chokes those saws down a lot.
On the 6400, 7300 and 7900 the baffle/bird cage can technically stay inside - but I doubt that many will keep it like I did.

All that said, I don't think my PS-6400 is underpowered nor to heavy - she simply has a different character than her sisters.
I sure love the fuel mileage she's getting over her PS-7900 sister.

I’m guessing the bigger bore needs more flow than the smaller one and is more restricted by the same muffler?

Big difference in the mufflers. The original muffler was/is a gem, but still needs a little opening to be perfect. That SLR, tuned port thing is very restricted. Great quality muffler outside, but exhausting through a straw sort of limits powa production and builds a ton of heat.

Yup I meant the whole series. I tried to keep the title short and sweet, I’ll edit it to be more clear:)
Suggestion for a shortened title "Dolmar 64xx/73xx/79xx series and smurf thread" or "Dolmar/Makita 64xx/73xx/79xx series thread"

Is is funny watching this thread changing names, I get a notification and I don't recognize the name of the linked thread. :p

I like to name this saw family 64xx/73xx/79xx just to avoid the numbering mess of the 6400/7300/7900 successors.

Whoever is interested is welcome to drop by and run all four of mine against each other.
We'll swap over a modded muffler to my PS-6400 just to make it a fair comparison too! :D

I don't need no more saw projects at the moment. I got like four going at once....
Get that one and toss the other projects over the fence.

Cylinder will most likely clean up, so best case scenario You'll be good with a AM piston kit and a Caber ring.

Keep it a "73", You don't need two 79'ers. ;)

Lol. I would but I can't just toss a Masterminded 461 over the fence. The 550XP with scored piston...meh, who cares? :)

Don’t think there are many AM options here.
Price is a bit steep on a saw with a roasted top end.
AM piston kits is was I meant, combined with a OEM or Caber ring and OEM circlips the one I'm running in my PS-6400 is running well.

I keep looking at HLSuply deals of the day in anticipation of PS-6400 & PS-7300 piston kit deals, but no such luck.
Nate got me two PS-7900 AM kits a while back for about 10$ each. They were multiple times on sale this year priced under 9$.

On everything else I go OEM and I invested a fair amount of cash to fix up my two 73's - but they are worth every bit of it.

I got a box full of Dolmar parts and goodies today, it was like opening a birthday present even though I knew what was in the box! :)

Lol. That's what I said to the OP. It would make more sense to me to jump it straight to the 7910 since it's got a pooched P&C.

That is, if the OP will take about 40% less than his asking price.

I paid $255 plus shipping for mine. Roaches piston, cylinder cleaned up, torn boot, and a few a/v springs. But that 7300 looks cleaner than what mine was.
I think you need to build another with a solo crank. And your piston options open up at 50mm. Gotta go after the mutt.
