I haven’t tried the new double battery top handle but I’ve got the single battery
Version which comes standard with a 12” 1/4 pitch carving bar
Iam very happy with this little saw I like you prune a lot of apple trees and after lunch I will show you my set up

I’ve supplied Chainsawbars with a few of the battery makitas and the 1/4 drivesprockets and he puts the 10” panther bar and I haven’t heard anything bad back from his customers or the ones I’ve sold

but as others have said these echo top handles have a good following and
Loads of users are pretty stoked with them

I really like the sound of a battery top handle esp seeing as I have a Makita impact wrench and drill. I am however a bit deterred by the 4.6kg of the double battery Makita. Mares we'll use the 42 as it is lighter than that.. tell me more about the single battery one. Which model are you talking about?

The cs2511t is the best way forward here but I've have a few 23cc Makita 231T's for years, great little saws that were availible well before the echo. But the US don't see them with epa regs.

These battery powered saws right now are still a little heavier than their gas/petrol counterparts. The only top handle battery saws that come close in weight to power ratio are the Husky top handle saws, but they are more expensive and the batteries aren't nearly as useful for other tools.

I have eyed this up here. Here it is the dcs230t. For what I want and need I don't need a top handle to wallop through 10" of wood etc. A little well made one would do.

Oh it's a skinny little bugger ain't it, having no recoil and all. Sure looks a nice build, I expect nothing less from Makita. Which I am guessing this is a truly Makita saw then rebadged as Dolmar. Rather than the other way round with the dolly petrol masterclasses. Nice dcs9000 there too.

Oh I forgot too say the Dolmar body only is approx 2.558 kg with oil
And sawdust

the 5.0AH battery is nearly 600 grams

so total weight 3.1 kg

The 2511t is a nice little saw I muffler modded one of them and my buddies tree service has the ms150t that I also muffler modded. The two I did are very close and I’d have a hard time telling someone that the 2511t is far superior to the 150. The price is much less for the echo than Stihl but I still think echo uses cheap plastics on their saws. Both saws are owned by tree services and both guys like what they bought and both are very close to each other my experience. One more thing to note is the ms150 is now being replaced buy a ms151t same chassis with a larger displacement and pop up piston. Soon the guy worn the 150 wants another so I’ll make sure I get the 151 so I can do a comparison between the two. So far the 194t is outdoing the 193t’s so was a worthwhile change Stihl made. The same opened muffler and timing advance on a 193 will work on the 194.

I know the cheap feeling plastic has been beat to death and the echo is a nice little saw. But an echo is the only saw I’ve found a sharp enough edge on a cover to cut you. As far as an adjustment on the Oiler neither tree service has complained about short on oil for the echo or the Stihl. Both guys only use the saws for pruning with a 5-6” cut or less only an occasional branch over that. They come with a 12” quarter tip 1/4” pitch carving bar and I see no need for an adjustable Oiler on either saw imho. If the trees or branches get large a ms 193, ms 194 or a modded 200t go up for the one guy and the other has a 193t and a 201t.

Precisely why I deleted my post. I'm not going to internet argue with you guy, but my 20 years of in tree top handle experience really appreciates your perspective...

I’m sorry I’m not trying to argue just stated an opinion, I’m not personally running either one day in and day out. I just work on them for the guys and I honestly like the little echo as much as I have run it. The 150t is also a nice little saw but as far as value the echo wins and I can admit that too. Both the respective owners love what they have and people do things different at times. Never been a right or wrong answer and never will be that’s why all these saws are made. It’s all a personal preference and what you have for luck, not saying husky is bad but neither one of these guys had any luck with them but doesn’t mean others haven’t. This was all given as in-site to help people decide not a pissing match. And I stand by my statement of the 2511t not kicking the 150’s butt when both modded. They are real close but on the other hand Stihl is too proud of the 150t at 529$.

You know I did call the ms150t a turd and didn't really say why. My sincere apologies guys. Things work different when your up here:

Yes for scale that's a full size compact articulated loader.

There is zero margin for error. These top handle saws are in tree/off the ground saws.

An adjustable oiler is important, so I'm not breathing either sawdust fines or bar oil over spray depending on which type of wood is being cut. The philosophy of use with a top handle saw tends to put it closer to your face. It's a big deal to me. It should be a big deal to anyone who uses one.

I won't get into power. It's too arbitrary to "discuss" on an internet forum. I give the edge to the 2511. You don't feel that way @lehman live edge slab . That's cool with me.

But the real reason I call the 150 a turd is the number of Arb friends who have lost saws due to poor build quality

Hint: It's more than a few. So much so that guys have taken to modding.

Think about a roughly 6# saw falling 80-100 feet. Best case scenario is your out 500 plus. Worst case you've seriously injured a coworker/ friend.

This is not a saw I can reccomend. Let alone someone spending 150+ more than the competition.

Feel free to pass the pics/info along to anyone currently using a ms150t at elevation.

2511t's oil very well, I keep mine around 50%, sometimes I turn it up for dead oaks and chunkin. Once I use up the last of my 3/8ths lp chains I'm gonna try some NK or 1/4". But once again if I dropped or blew up my 2511t I'm buying another one.

I bought a rear handle MS150 just because I like saws, a deal came up & I have a MS201 rear handle & that is an awesome little saw. But the MS150 not so much it was finicky the chain didn't work well would get bound up with chips and had a stiff throttle trigger spring that was uncomfortable to use. I gave it to my 10y/o nephew as he loves using axes, saws and mowers. I like the mag case, but the ms150 could be much better saw, especially for its price. I think the my 200t and 201's are better saws.

Just saw a new battery saw offering from echo. Supposed to be a hair lighter than the 2511t with same performance. @Adamski you will have to fire up your google skillz as I have no idea about availability on it yet. Might throw a twist into the conversation though.
