At this point, I'm personally staying away from the 346xps .... for one reason. They have a proprietary bearing on the PTO side...the bearing is $40. there is no other option. no 346xp's for me. 350's i can choose which 6202 I want to use, and then either use oem seals or am. at least I have a choice.

Hey Matt is it physically impossible to put a metal clamp on without pulling juggaclam apart or is there more to it? I.e. What goes wrong if you cut off plastic destroying plastic clamp and fenagle a metal clamp in there that you set by closing and clasping with pliers or whatever?

I'm guessing it's impossible to get new clamp in there and closed otherwise why mess with lower end of a clamshell....

Does that proprietary bearing also go for the 353?

if you can do it you are a better man than I... if Mitch can do it he's a better man than I ....

I have such a pain in the ass time getting that thingy on ANYWAY that I think it'd be impossible without taking it off the saw. ALSO.... if you screw up the insertion of the impulse nipple you can get an airleak too. :( no way I could try this without the cylinder off.

All of this is a perfect example of Husqvarna and their better design. ;)
Having to pull the jug to fix a clamp on a rubber intake boot that was originally attached with a plastic wire tie is piss poor engineering. The very reason why I won't buy one. This was given to me by my FIL. That is bad enough.
I'll stick with my Stihl's and be very happy. Thank you.

uh, ok.... my 350's, 372, 385 394s all have to have their intake attached first before the jug is placed. THAT I don't have a problem with. The plastic clamp itself was piss poor engineering from the start and necessitated a recall, NOT a TSB.

another engineering snaffu on the husky 350s is that you cannot use the tank to attach a lanyard. if you do, and the rear AV spring is a little out of whack, the throttle sticks / jams WIDE open ... just fyi

I've had my Stihl 029 for over 20 years, and only had to do very minor maintainance. Fuel filter twice and fuel line once. Air filters twice. I cut many cord of wood with it. Never let me down. That is good design, dependability and engineering.
One cannot argue that.

If the clamp and boot aren't loosey/goosey, I'd just run it and not be concerned. I think a lot of them that failed were just from yanking on the handle like an idiot. And if you smoke the top end someday, so what, then's when it's time for the p&c upgrade.

It isn't that big of a deal to finagle a band clamp on without taking everything apart, trick is to find the right clamp, needs to be narrower than the typical ones. Harbor freight sells those little assortment kits, up until about a year ago they had the narrow type but now they're all wide. Could get them on sale for like 3 bucks and they had 5 or 6 of the right size in there. I bought a bunch but have used all of them. Wish I bought more.

Can't recall the details but the tab on the stock clamp can be cut off in place (exacto/dykes/whatever) then just insert the end of the worm/band clamp in and push it/bend it 'till it comes back 'round, join the ends and tighten...

Can also use a big honkin' cable tie...

After gaining a ported saw or two in the herd, less power was unacceptable.
My 029,18" held it's value so well, I traded it for a
30" 8.5hp Briggs log splitter.

Thanks Bill. I will try and dig in to it soon. I have a Stihl clamp that is pretty narrow. Might do it.
The clamp is really just hanging on by a thread. I think it is bad Juju to blow an engine unnecessarily. Just me. I will try and fix it. I have HD tie wraps as well.
The trick will be trying to get my big paws in the small space. Matt is right. Only way to be 100% is to pull the clam shell jug.
