I already have it tapped with 6mm bolts for a 066 so I guess why go back right?

It was my granddads. He Didn't use it much, then it sat in a barn from about 90 til a couple years ago when my uncle tried running it without looking it over and trashed the top end. Then I found it and put the 066 top on it and redid the paint

Jeff, Just FYI, all 3 of the 044/046 hybrids at the GTG IMO ran great, and ALL THREE HAD 046-D jugs on em.

Quite a coincidence, eh???

At previous GTGs, I have not been as impressed with the hybrids, but all three of these ran with the ported 460s.

I do have a 12mm 440, but I can't see destroying a good running saw, I'll have to find one with a burned up top end. Ironically, a guy told me he had 3 of them and was going to call me, but never did! I'm trying to follow up.
It's not destroying. If you don't like it just swap it back and save the top end for a 46

All that's got to be done is trade the Pistons and cylinders. Really no other mods. Like @mdavlee said, you can put the 440 top end back on and know one would ever know.
Most of the modifications that have to be done to fit the 046 cylinder get done to the cylinder and not the saw.

Wire on the 028 I mentioned several posts back --

Here are 3 pics of a wire going from a lug inside the filter area to a lug put under a top cover bolt. Does the wire normally go inside the brown tube that goes from filter area to outside filter housing / top cover rear area? I think they added this wire when the one that likely went routed inside the brown tube failed and likely is no longer there. Thanks for any info guys and not trying to de-rail this. If this saw will run decent and cut well I can send it back with some cash and try and keep the 044. Both 028 and 044 belong to one of my brother's co-workers.
EDIT: This is an 028AV w/ "Electronic Quick stop" written on the top cover.

EDIT Again: I'm thinking the brown tube is more likely a tank vent -- it just ends outside filter area, but goes down through a grommet below filter cavity -- likely to fuel tank.

@RI Chevy this is the wire I was talking about :)
