I often take time to give people tips on how to cut safely and properly maintain their saw.

i just sold a 180c on ebay..and i thought i would make a video of it starting from cold and load it up to youtube and send him the link as he is interstate. i also threw in the box a dvd from Stihl about how to operate a saw since i didnt have a manual and have a few dvds laying around.

I had a guy tell me to pop the switch out and flip it over. Still haven't done it yet.
I sold a 2165 to a guy one time who wore a pig mask:beer-toast1:, guy didn't even want to hear it run, I started it and piss revved it just because LOL.

I like when someone says.. I have one of those Stihl saws... I say.. oh, what model? They reply "a 16 inch"...
Applies to both these post; ask someone what kind of fuel economy they get, they answer about 325 miles per tank:risas3:.
Keep in mind that this forum is filled with a bunch of saw enthusiasts. Probably 99% of all people that use chainsaws don't really care about them other than their usefulness as a tool to cut firewood or make big pieces of wood small enough to drag out of the way.
Do you realize how many drivers out there have never had the hood of their car up? (and maybe don't even know how or what they would look for if they did?)
So it is fun to share the experiences we have with clueless saw operators but they are probably experts in a field we know diddly about.

Your a nice guy :).

.

Our 2015 Dodge van. I never look under the hood. Only when we looked at it on the dealer's lot. Kinda like "look at all the fancy covers".

I couldn't fix anything under there anyway.

Now if it was some old dog from the sixtys, we'd be looking under the hood.

You expect people to do math when they fill up....

I was suprised how much room is under the hood of my f150, lots of with the Little 3.7 and its not very complicated to work. Im glad i dont have those covers.

It's obvious by the response you at least know how to "do that math".
Back on topic, bought an ms290 and a 450 rancher tonight, I picked them up by the starter cord thingy and they didn't go down to quick, so I figured they 'd be good LOL.
The guy with the 450 (with and 18" B&C) had an "extra chain for it for me, it was a 3/8"x20" :applaudit:.
The guy with the 290 asked me if I knew how to start it:eusa_doh:.
Nothing like keeping it interesting :).

I like that STIHL instructional DVD.

I like to include a manual if they are available - kind of puts the responsibility on the buyer to read it, just like when buying a new saw. The manuals for many saws are available for free download on the manufacturers' websites. I usually burn it to a CD to save the cost of printing, or print out a link. For some older saws, you can sometimes contact the company for a PDF or printed version. I like printed manuals for the saws I keep.

Fun thread.

Fixed it for you buddy:rolleyes:.
When I first read your response I really thought that was what you were saying lol.
I bought an ms170 about a month ago, I didn't even start it when I bought it lol. It came with a 6 pack of stihl oil and a gallon of bar oil which I kept when I sold it :). I ran the rest of the first tank thru it and part of another and then sold it. The guy I sold it to never started it either, I think he wanted to read the manual first LOL.
