I once tried starting a Dolmar PS-7900 with the kill switch in OFF position!
After 4-6 pulls the seller told me to put it in ON position to start it.

Crazy thing is I own a Dolmar PS-6400 since long before I went to purchase the PS-7900 so these saws are not unfamiliar to me!
I had luck and the PS-7900 didn't flood (several pulls on choke + kill switch in OFF).

That was damn embarrassing!
I claim to have been overexcited as I always wanted a PS-7900, thus my brain just shut off. View attachment 37473

I call this particular saw my own since, no regrets whatsoever! View attachment 37474
I had a guy tell me to pop the switch out and flip it over. Still haven't done it yet.

what about the guy that doesn't even know how to start the dern thing....says "hey- can you start it for me? "
yea- that guy makes me nervous....

Now if I'm the one doing the buying, I will ask the seller to start it. This way when it doesn't run I can't be blamed for doing it wrong, and the price should go down.

Well, the damn thing is backwards from most saws.

I had a guy tell me to pop the switch out and flip it over. Still haven't done it yet.
Ive done this on my 7900s and on my 665 Solo, and it makes things less confusing when going back and forth between saws. Plus it just feels more natural to shut off the saw by sliding the switch left to right.

Chainsaws are stupid! If you have not tried to start with switch off, put a chain on backwards, ran a chain into the dirt, or seen or had one burn down, You just have not used one long enough. Guy purchased a 372 from me and called next day, saying it seized, brought it back and removed a small twig from rewind and started right up. Saw was covered in dirt and still wonder how that twig got in there, using it to cut out stumps.

Went to look at a 55 yesterday, he had both manuals, new bar and chain and said it would not run, but said he would try to start it. Looked lightly used, very lightly. Said I could buy it for $75 if I wanted to take a chance. Checked compression when I returned home, 160-165psi., put gas and bar oil in it, pulled plug and removed carbon shorting plug out and started right up.

I just have to add to this after he tells me about the 2 year old gas he continues to tug on it.The whole time I kept saying to him its okay I'll take it he then takes the spark plug out sprays starting fluid in it.Im saying please don't do that after about another 10 pulls. He puts in a different plug after being completely worn out he gave in.I told him about how over time the eathanol goes bad absorbs moisture messes the carb up dries the lines out etc. Also let him know were to buy the 91 e free less than 10 minutes from him.

The old "letting it drop only holding the starter to check compression" has always intrigued me. I'm still trying to figure this one out.
It actually makes sense as long as You have a reference of "dropping speed" of an identical saw.

I drop tested my PS-7900 when I purchased her, in comparison to my PS-6400 she dropped significantly slower.

Logic dictates that the drop speed variates depending on starter size/diameter and engine cc's.
Drop speed test does not work with easy start!

Yeah, that makes me twice crazy - kill switch in off position and drop speed testing my PS-7900 on purchase.
Turned out to be an excellent deal/decision non the less!

Had a chap say to me when looking at a saw "The saw will start from hot /warm wont it as my old saw wont" after showing him how the warm start procedure is activated on his "Old Saw" (ms 260) ... he tells me he wont need another saw now !!:BangHead:

After selling a saw serviced and ready to use ..I cringe when i hear " that should see me out for the year then till it needs a service " !!!!!!!!!!!!
One came in with a badly burned up bar with no bar oil. The customer said he checked it at the beginning of the season.
