Crank Seal Case Repair

I assume this is a customer saw.

Ask the customer what he wants and if his budget and schedule allow for replacing the case half, or dictates slopping some motoseal around the crank seal.

He's fully aware of what's goin on and I'm sure he will be along shortly. Hoping this thread helps him decide what he would like to try!

Here's another option .Take a sharp prick punch,scratch awl or something and go around the seal pocket to raise the metal and use red Loctite .

I can weld Mag, but I'd still use JB weld here. The difference in hardness between it an mag would make sanding and resizing a breeze compared to new Mag being in there.

I vote JB weld or permatex liquid metal filler. I've had good luck with both.

I've used the permatex liquid metal filler once to seal a injector cone into the head of a IH 686 diesel tractor that was leaking water.

Then use a sealant as insurance.

Bore it oversize and sleeve it would be my first thought.

its the most secure option after my opinion also.
I think in this case he can escape with JB, and in combination with sealent.

I vote replace the case. its a very common saw many folks probably have good case halfs kicking around. I might even have one in my junk someplace.

I've welded up bad seal bosses before and re-bored them, but it's a lot of work when epoxy and light sanding can fix it.

Really what I'm leaning towards but we'll see what the customer wants. And i hate to weld it up as its not a hard saw to find parts for.

The best way is Tig welding and machine again the piece
The epoxy glue , metal fillers is the second
only dirko or other similars will not keep

I vote for $50 get a different case. By the time you dork around with jb or any of the other "fixes", you will have way more in it with just your time not including all the other factors. Get a different case and save your time and money.

I think I would use JB weld and set the seal while its still soft so it would fill the voids and should seal. Clean up excess upon seal set....and wait and test. Oh ya....forgot to mention firgers must be crossed during procedure.....
