Washer plus Outerwear seems to work good. Week 14 of tree lengthing on the saw, no complaints.
Tried the 661 max flow under the stock shroud and got a bunch fines through it.

How often and how extensively do you clean your 500i?
As far as general cleaning, I clean it with SuperClean and water every once in a while, and take off the air filter cover, cylinder cover, and the base that the air filter sits on(carb box cover on other saws) and clean those as well. I’ve probably done that twice on this saw now. And I use an air hose to clean the crap around the wires, fuel lines and whatnot. I sometimes take the clutch drum off and clean it and the clutch area. Same on starter side.
I do daily air filter changes generally, and keep up on fuel filters and whatnot.

That’s what I’m doing. The Outerwear seems to work quite well and fit tight. I’m sticking to the stock filter. I don’t want to cram a maxflo in there personally.

Don't let him fool you the guy cleans his saws and keeps them up to maintenance better than any timber faller I have ever seen

Thank you guys for putting these saws to the test and working the bugs out of them. There are a lot of us amateur cutters that are benefitting from your feedback. Keep up the good work!

I don't envy you being in the black. Got a pretty steady diet of it last spring, summer and fall. The 462 filter did great, the 572 not so much.
Let me know how the 500 filter does.
Mine hasn't gotten to play in the black stuff yet.
