I'm betting that high-speed solenoid valve is just screwed up in this saw and it's a shame he doesn't have another 500I just to swap and try.
Every saw I buy is bought with the back up waiting or at the same time....get two if you can.
I'm all for keeping my equipment compatible That is WHEN they become the chosen ones, that is.
I can only think of one thing that could possibly be worse than buying an unproven saw^^

I usta love being the test mule for all these new saws. I was the first in our area to buy and run the ms441, 576xpAT, 562xp, 372xp, ms661rcm and mt8200 efco. When I mean run them, I'm talking 7 plus hrs a day and 4 to 6 days a week. The first saw I tried new was the 372. My local dealer didnt even have them on display yet, as he still had 272xp for sale. The 372 is the only saw I keep going back to after trying tons of other saws.
I dont like being test mule any longer, after having issues with both major brands. So I appreciate when I can read about others doing what I used to do and proving the powerheads value.

And....what 70+ cc saw are you stuck on for grunt? Oiling?
Top rpm saw? Weakest one?
No Echos, Shinnys, Smurfs or Redheads in there, yknot?

Well didnt have any good echo, shinny, dealers here.theys good saws though. I never look at a 70 cc for grunt. When I think of 70 cc saws, i think about light weight, good chain speed, low vibs, good on fuel, quick accel, and will run a 28 inch bar in softwoods. If I need grunt then the 066 or 394 comes to mind. I've owned many jonsered and other brands but what I was stating above were the saws I bought new as soon as they were released to the public. ......locally

For comparison value, using the term grunt in a sub 70 cc saw I would have that narrowed down to a 046 mag and 7900 dolmar. Never have been a fan of dolmar and I refuse to get into that in this thread right here right now

From the sounds of the ms500i, I would bet it would kick all these older saws out of bed for eating crackers. Its light, has great throttle response, and from the vids I've seen it has good torque in the cut. Hopefully it will stand the test of time and hold up like the TS500i has for several years

The 500i is effectively a factory ported saw with 6.8 hp. @CLEARCUT hows it compare to a modded 461?
I couldn’t say at the moment which one would be faster, but I would say they would be close. It felt like the 500i oiled better, which I like. I’m sure the 500 is going to be a great saw, I just need to get this one sorted all out.
