Maybe a half an hour to forty five minutes if you brush the thick stuff off first. Also it won't take thick carbon out of the exhaust port.
It does soften most carbon residue I found, just not the most stubborn crusty stuff. I was able to wipe out 99% of the carbon from a polished exhaust port after the pod softened it. I tried a bit of AntiCreoSoot on a piston crown and that didn't help any, but Rutland wood stove glass cleaner looks like a potential option for hard to remove carbon. It does require scrubbing still.

Since were talking pods and usc. The cylinder boiled in a bucket with 3 or 4 pods in it for about 4 hours. I think LA awesome works a little bit quicker and they come out shinier, but the dishwasher pods are cheap and they certainly do work

That looks like one of Tim's projects @cuinrearview

Well, it might have been too clean for Tim initially...
Tim sent me a box of 365 a while back. This saw was similar, but worse. There was not one spot of bare aluminum on that cylinder. And many of the fins were caked solid

It's almost as if Tim goes out of his way to exclusively cut Railroad ties in his spare time.

I find the pods turn bare aluminum dark colored, does it oxidize it or what?

I haven't had any problems with them darkening or oxidizing. I did this one back in February and it still looks like it did back then. I washed it afterwards with dawn. Just took the pics.

Ran the crock pot twice last night for an hour each time.
It did ok for just using plain clean water. Going to keep using these giant zip lock bags in it and going to double up for the next run. It will fit four chainsaw jugs with no problem. Now to try one walmart dishwasher pod in it tonight with clean water. Mostly just an oily residue in the lower parts and around the exhaust port area. No more caked on crap on them two and I did not scrape them. Only took two heat cycles to knock it all off. Gave them a quick scrub in the sink with some spray nine and hot water.

On another subject I looked up a maybe 40W signal generator cone and controller. One hour cycle generator is about sixty bucks with two frequencies available. Forgot the exacting specs because it was weeks ago.
