I had an aunt, her daughter, God bless em. Drank themselves to death, literally.. My long time bestest bud is 14 yrs w/out a drop, couldn't stop after a beer or 2, more like a case a day.
Couple times a wk, I have me a double, scotch on da rocks. Just enjoy it, but I could live w/out it.

Nicotine,,, that's another story tho.

Recently got word that one of my old running buddies managed to drink himself to death. Another got in a wreck. Sober but his body was so weakened from drinking he couldn't recover from his injuries. It's just such a waste.

I quit drinking twenty years ago it was easy for me but One of my best friends 105 pounds soaking wet drank 36 bud lights daily for twenty years sometimes more his boss was cool with it when he finally had enough he went cold turkey to quit that sent him into severe dts nearly killing him and tearing his esophagus to pieces from screaming so if you know anyone trying to quit they will need help.

I got in with the wrong crowd in high school. Did my share of puffing the magic dragon (but that's as far as it went). My then girlfriend and now wife pulled me away as hard as she could. It took "best friend" coming out of rehab and going right back to the stuff to make me separate from the negative influence. He died a few years later of an "enlarged heart". He was the type to do anything put in front of him. We had cut ties after the rehab incident. That was his chance and he blew it.
Then the birth of my first child sealed the deal. I haven't touched it in 16 years.
Kudos to all y'all keeping the house clean.

4 years clean and sober myself and I thank the Man Above everyday. Living on borrowed time right now cuz at the rate I was going, I should have been 6 feet under. I don't look at other people differently because they drink or drug. I just know what happens when I do and its no pretty. Congrats to all, Hold on to your clean time fellas.

Hi fellas, my name is Mike. I have been sober for 5 years, and could not be happier. I had a pretty serious drinking problem, I would drink a 18 pack on a work night and a 30 pack on a day off. I am a single parent and as my 2 boys were getting old enough to realize what was going on it was time to quit.

Lost my best friend to a meth/alcohol related suicide July 2015. He was clean for over 10 years. Dont think for a minute that one wont hurt you. It will, and it will hurt everyone around you

Can't like this post.

I've lost a few good friends to relapse in the last year or two. Jails, institutions, or death......

Only reason I liked this is for the one won't hurt you cause it will part of it. I am sorry for the loss of your best friend.

I did my share if drinking when I raced and derbied. The first few years of my marriage was rough from the drinking too. I gave up the racing and derbies as it just got out of hand money wise. I have the occasional drink or 2 but theya re very few and far between. I don't like the feeling the next day. I would sooner get up early and enjoy feeling great and my day than sitting in the couch hung over. My friends give me a hard time for not drinking but when I call them the next day while I was sober cab for them they wish they would of stopped earlier in the evening

Best friend died in 1994. He basically past out at the wheel and drove head on into a semi. We were both heavy drinkers at that time. It was the wake up call I needed. Unfortunately I had to lose a great friend to get it. The guilt of should've, would've, could've follows you forever.

Thank you. We were very close and for the most part inseparable growing up.

I can have around 1/2 a beer without it making me sick as hell. So it just isnt worth it to me. If I drink 2-3 I feel like I downed a case of beer the next day and Im sick for 2 or 3 days after

I'm happy for the guys that are clean . Wish I could say the same myself . Been smoking since I was 18 . Horrible pointless habit. Wife gets on me nearly every day about it.

The last time I had a couple drinks was after helping a friend and he bought lunch and drinks. I had 2 and was done but the bartender bought us another and I was shot the rest of the day just because I don't have a tolerance anymore

I had one beer after I quit, and it gave me a instant headache. I think that was a message from the big man saying don't do it no more period.
