thank you randy @Mastermind for breaking the ice on the subject and putting it out there for all to see. It takes a fine human to do so. And thanks to everyone that has shared their experiences and knowledge it feels good to know that others have been through the dryer a time or two and share the same hobbys as I do. Makes this place that much better in my eyes.

Don't ask the Doctor for help.

Prescription drug addiction is at epidemic levels in America. Not sure this "out of control" horse wagon can be stopped at this point. Americans who think that the way to deal with any difficulty or problem is to pop a pill will never find a way out of this entangled maze. The many who are hooked on prescription pain killers (without actually meriting their use) -- the numbers are staggering. So many little children left in the wreckage it is pathetic and heart breaking.

How do you fix this problem???

I wish I knew. I'm pretty sure drug companies are feathering the nests of the perscribing doctors at the pain clinics.

We need leaders in this country that ain't for sale to the highest bidder. That would be a good start I reckon.

I don't know any of the numbers, but I bet prescribed use is at least tied with illegal use. I don't know it maybe even worse than that I'm not sure, but there sure is a lot of prescribed drugs that will wreck ya for sure.

It's not just painkillers. Anti anxiety, anti depressants, anger management to many prescribed for environmental issues instead of psychological. Some jobs are so toxic no wants to deal with the reality so they pill up and high hoe ,high hoe it's off to work.

True. Another facet of the deepening problem here in America.

How do you fix this problem???
Problem is so multifaceted. Doctors treating patients for pain and patients selling drugs (don't say it's young people, young addicts become old addicts). Bad doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other providers do it for profit, manufacturers making profit, patients selling for profit and illegal drug manufacturers and suppliers making profits (reward out-weights risk). Reward out weights risk, that is law enforcement's and courts part. Only way I can see to really put a stop to this, is stop usage and dry up the MONEY train. After all I have seen and been involved with I can only hope, addicts can walk away from their problems and stop external pain they cause to, children, wife, husband, parents, themselves and all concerned. I am sure everyone knows a family member or friend with a drug or alcohol problem. This problem is a true global challenge.

Indeed. Plenty of them. Friends, family and fellows that I used to run with. My sister in law has been hooked on crack, and black tar heroin more times than I can count. Her sons have been on and off and both have jail records and one had prison time already. One of my best friends did serious time, he's out now with a multiple felony record. It is a multifaceted problem and the "tentacles" of this monster are latched on deep in our society. (Not trying to repeat the diagnosis here of the problem either). My hats off to everyone thus far who have announced they are clean. If you're in drug replacement therapy now -- you need to realize your head is not above water. Don't stop till you are no longer dependent!

No caffeine
No nicotine
No alcohol
i watched a best friends wife go through 7 programs unsuccessfully. Told him that he should quit to support her. He said that's BS I can quit "anytime".
I said the same thing..."I can quit anytime"...until I tried to quit....realized it was not so easy....that gave me the will to quit.

Knowing I had to work to quit told me anything that my body "needs" to get through the day...is something I DONT need in my body.

Strength to all on this journey, know it's is not a paved highway and there will be bumps along the way. Keep the goal in focus and your eye on the prize.
And don't be afraid to ask for help...even if the only friend close by is God.

Well I am on Day 1
Going to go dry for a while and try and kick the booze all together.

This thread has really had this ticking over in my head a lot.

Hell, I might even loose some weight and save some money along the way.

Wish me luck folks
Congats on your day 1, got any questions or just want to chat holler.
