Anyone know the needle setting on the carburettor on a Husqvarna 44 saw? The carb is a Walbro HDC-32. The carb has new membrane kit but is flooding and acting really weird. It runs when H and L screw is almost all the way in. Could the "fork" on the needle be out of position?

I believe that one turn out for both the H & L will be your starting point. I just worked on a 55 and that is what I used. It is possible that the "fork" (metering lever) that adjusts the needle is a little too high and is allowing too much fuel to come up. What you will need to do is get a tool like this to correctly set the metering lever height:

With this, you set the side that says HDC down across the carb and if the metering lever hits it, then you adjust the lever lower, if the lever is too low, then adjust it up until you can slide this tool across the carb surface and the metering lever touches it, but does not prevent the sliding of the tool. You can find this tool on Amazon or sometimes at a local shop.

And as you can see, the HDC side is completely flat so any straight edge across the top of the metering will provide what you need. Also ensure you have the order of the gasket and diaphragm correct. Gasket goes first against the body of the carb.

Not sure with the Walbro HDC-32 but people get caught with the diaphragm having
a slot that the metering lever fits into and if you have sat it on top of the metering
lever it will be away to rich. Other than ripping the top of a HDC-32 to look
Hacskroly may be able to fill you in on that. Will have a look when I go out to my shed
and check it out.

I didn't think about that, but you are correct, that could cause the issue too. Looking at the repair kits on-line for that carb, it appears they just have the button and not the slotted knob.
