Carb options for 357xp (other than Zama)

I would also add that the Walbro HDA159 found on an OE346 has the accelerator pump and brass plug.... Don't ask me how I know, just take my word for it! LOL!

Crazy question, does the "A" in HDA indicate a model with the accelerator pump??? I'm seeing a pattern that would indicate such.

Thanks to Simondo on that topic, were it not for his advice I would probably still be pulling out what's left of my hair... Speaking of that OE346 at work, I picked up the new Zama C3-EL18B carb for it today and it runs perfect! I will be using the saw monday at work up in the bucket truck taking down a few trees...

Still waiting on the NE style air filter mount though...

More likely the small "a" that iv noticed after the number is identifying the pump…e.g..HDA 182a . HDA carbs don't all have them as far as i can tell . Tor may know much more .

Yes Sir...gave my 199 the full Treemonkey treatment and it runs good now. But as far as I can recall, the Treemonkey fix doesn't contain a fix for the accelerator pump when it goes bad..

When you put your kit in like Treemonkeys video.
Did you also drill the top cover plate? Even with the right gaskets and diagrams?
I put a kit in my 199 yesterday for my 357. I can get it to idle and rev up but it will die once I let off the throttle like it out of fuel.
It seems really touchy on the needle settings too.
I have never ran this saw before as I just put it together from boxes of parts and this is the first time I started it.

Yes, both RideRed350R and my self drilled the cover when we installed the updated carb kit. Both of our saws are still running perfect.

I'm going to need to spend some time with this one and see if I can get it right.
Low side seems really finicky and I didn't have much time to mess with it after I got it to sorta run.

Didn't do much to it other than a full rebuild, matched the lowers to the gasket, muffler Mod and cut the base to get the squish down without a gasket.

No we haven't. How would one go about that?

Have to pull the accelerator pump piston, then put a dab of epoxy under it....reassemble, and lock the throttle shaft wide open till it sets up.

I dont drill the hole anymore, most of those HDA's has the same top cover with a hole.

I hadn't heard that, but it certainly seems feasible.

I think the acceleration pump is used to compensate for a lean L system due EPA.
Always wondering if there is any acceleration difference between 199 and 198, never had a 198

I guess there is only one way to find out.........time to try one and see.

i have the non accelerator pump one on my 359, forget which model carb but doesn't seem to be a difference in acceleration between the ones with a pump. Could be a little different on a 357 though. That being said i have very seldom had problems with the pump in these hda carbs. If you did and wanted to fix it all you have to do is pop the brass plug and pull the throttle shaft and remove the piston and replace the o ring with the proper sized one or do like mastermind said and delete it.

Got myself a HDA 198 this weekend, now to get it installed and see if there is any tuning differences between it and the 199 with a accelerator pump.
