357 is well worth tearing down to fix. If it's over your head for the repair, use the refund money and send it to one of the guys on this forum. One way or another, I see you as a future happy 357owner. Cheers and good luck

A 357 is definitely worth getting up and running.
Lots of info about them on here. Easy to work on. I got mine with bad bearings.
Koyo bearings, oem seals, gaskets, intake partition and clamp along with fuel line and filter. Steve did some machine work on the base and band due to pitting in the band from piston contact and I tried my hand at porting.
They are a nice all around saw.

Yeah, I am going to rebuild it. The Mahle cylinder is in great shape. Maybe open up the transfers, intake and exhaust. I am thinking a Hyway pop up piston. Base gasket delete. It has a Zama c3-el42 carb in it so I am I going to have to look up @Mastermind 's threads on them. It's been awhile since I have worked on 2 cycles. I will imagine it will all come back.

You got the good carb then! At least in my opinion from a reliability standpoint. Sounds like it might be newer than a 2008 model, if it did come factory with that carb

Now that thats settled...nobody derailed this thread yet? Leaky bottom end that he got from the internet?
You started it ;)
Just slap a slice of bread on it for a couple days, it’ll slow down

Ask monkey man, I heard he was leaky the other day.

You have no proof of this BS...

You’re right.

I thought maybe he was speaking from personal experience.

I've had a leaky bottom end since Christmas dinner, argggggg

I guess you need a new cook, or stop eating outta the trash can.:)

You’ve gotta put the bread on the inside.
Is that how monkey showed you :ambulance:

in the mean time, this op has a saw for postage. So I guess he’s looking to fix it up good.
Well your in the right place :campeon:

I just rebuilt and ported a beat up 2002 357xp and it is fun to run and fast in the cut. It was more of a project than I was originally looking for but was fun to do and I learned a lot. I have worked on a few saws before and can grind ports but I don't have a lathe or a right angle tip for my rotary tool to get into the uppers, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Go for it, if I can muddle through it, anyone can...

Thanks that’s a good link,
The other month I was messing around with a ms211c I couldn’t get it to run right after a light bit of porting.
The H jet just didn’t supply enough and it would bog in the cut.

so I drilled the main one size larger, and it sorted out the bogging issues. I was really copying like what Randy showed in the 461 thread.

It would seem the epa don’t want us to burn to much fuel :risas3:
