I have a problem. I am now addicted to modifying chainsaws. In the last couple months I have rebuilt and ported a 362, an 045 Super, and an 044. All are ripping. I thought I was done there, and then I got to wondering what I could do with a clamshell 251 that sat on the shelf.

I ported it, gave it a muffler mod, removed the air intake baffle and installed a WCS air filter. It is running much better, and cut speed improved 20-25% on the same wood with the same bar and chain. I would not recommend purchasing this saw to modify, but I already had it and I’m curious what it’s capable of.

I’m wondering if the carb is holding it back now. It has a ZAMA C1Q S295. Does anyone know of another C1Q that will fit? It looks like some 271s, 261s, 310s come with a version of the C1Q, but I don’t know what the differences are. Any ideas? Thanks guys. I have read a lot on this site and it has helped me on all these projects.image0.jpeg
