I'm going to try porting a Husqvarna 51 and I think I've read that the Zama was the largest carb that came on these saws, but I'm not sure. I just bought it on ebay so I don't know what carb is on it. Below is a pic of it.

im not sure how far down the rabbit hole ya wanna go...i think options are fairly limited if you want to keep an air filter, not much gonna fit under that cover.

Got to keep the filter. I was just wondering if the Walbro or the Zama would be better or if they are about the same.

About the same and as big as that style carb allows.
That's good, I'm trying to put as little money into as I can and a carb is one less thing I'll have to buy. Thanks!

Now if I can find a closed port cylinder at a good price I'll be set. If not I'll use the one that's on it.

Thanks, I thought it would be a good match for my 61 with a 670 top end and 630 cover. They guy said It's had very little use and he hasn't used it in a couple of years.

Just port what you have or you will have more money in it than it’s worth. The open port jug can do ok.
That's probably what I'll end up doing.

Old thread but I just studied Husqvarna 51 Zama carb. It is TINY! Even 15mm c3-el32 from 353 is bigger. Lengthwise maybe 5mm longer.
For bigger carb intake parts should be heavily modified.
I'm not even sure if bulkhead itself has enough material to grind that throat bigger to suit c3 series carb.
Is there any performance gain available there?

I put a ported closed port 55 cylinder on that saw and bored out the original carb, it was plenty of carb for it.

Did you modify the hole in the bulkhead? It is quite small too and matches original carb outlet size.

I looked to see if I took some pics of the carb but didn't. I did find a couple of pics of my Partner 500 carb that I bored out. I think it's a WT170

No, I only opened up the venturi.

Just measured. Bulkhead is 15.7mm and for example el32 outlet is 17.7mm. Unfortunately there is hardly enough material for drilling bulkhead hole any bigger.

The carb came off a 55 and I forgot that I also drilled the H jet The cylinder is a ported closed port 55.
