No hotrod, I’m spoiled to the 6100 but I reckon that will do. 30” today. Unfortunately, doesn’t look like there’s much to be gotten from that log but cookies. 051B9388-7479-4DD4-BC8B-494F5C99D5AE.jpeg

Garr. The chokeage is back. 24” full comp .050” felling hairy bark mesquite. When I cut with the top of the bar(tip protruding) it choked 2-3 times. Meh?

I feel that my MMWS6100 gets plenty load with a 20" fully buried.
I dare say 24" is not 60cc area if fully utilized.
Try a 6400/7300/7900 for 24" and above.

Also, all my small Husky bar mount saws bind their chains way to easy whenever the bar tip does not protrude out of the log.
Must be something about the k095 bar tip/sprocket considering I rarely ever encounter B&C binds on any of my D009 bars.
Maybe the k095 smaller diameter bar tip is the culprit?

P.S.:
Did You try make Your own sorta-skip?

If You decide to try it keep the side plates as scoring teeth, my theory is they will not actively cut wood but they will contribute to cary wood chips out of the cut.
Always give the scoring teeth a file stroke or two more than the cutting teeth in order to reduce their drag effect.

I agree, I don’t usually bury 24”. I like the reach and having some out the other side unless in a trash pile.

Maybe using the top or back of the bar, the chain is pushing instead of pulling and there is more potential for space between the bar and chain for chips to get in.

I'll get You some pictures of my 36"/115DL hillbilly skip tomorrow.
I found that a bench grinder is the easiest way to get every third tooth's top plate off.

Don't worry about the asymmetric left to right tooth alignment You will end up with, it doesn't matter on a work chain at chain speeds exceeding 20m/s. ;)

Might sound crazy but I was thinking maybe leave the very last bit of the cutter (maybe blunted) as a raker or sweep to drag chips out.

Pictures are on my dumb phone, BTing them over to my tablet PC.
Will take a moment.

Keep the cutters side plates, I like my custom skip like that.
You can always grind more away in increments afterwards as You try the loop.

Time for updated pictures, took 'em today and I don't want them to go to waste.
This is with a lot more use on the loop, most of it noodling.
Sharpened with a 3/8" Archer FastFiler jig and a 7/32" round file.

This loop came to a wear point where it makes a kerf a little too narrow causing the beefy solid steel Iggesund Forest bar to get stuck.
This made me utilize my full complement 115DL loop recently and I noticed severe chip clearance issues bucking a partially rotten log.

I like roller guides too, makes filing chains much more simpler and consistent.
I am utilizing Archer FastFiler roller guides.

Seat of the pants the cowboy skip cuts well, maybe not as good at clearing chips as true skip. Cutting up into pine with the bar buried it bound the chain with chips in the groove and threw it once. Wasn’t an issue as long as I didn’t bury the bar.

What sequence cowboy skip did You go with?
Did You spin it or cut off cutters?
If You cut off cutters did You leave the side plates as scoring teeth?

I must have missed the above if You already posted it!

This sounds like a bar tip issue!
Maybe the sprocket lifts the chain too far off the nose rails?

I often ran my 36" hillbilly skip buried and rarely ever encountered chips causing B&C binding.

It is interesting to follow along as You troubleshoot the issues You are having.

Any input on the Husqvarna S93 Xtra Cut chains?? Worth the little extra $$?? Haven't mastered the square filing yet and looking for a durable round chain in semi dirty hardwoods.
