Thanks buddy! I like it too![emoji41]Your hybrid runs good dan , i like it.
Hedgerow did a couple all black. He posted pics on the first page of this thread. I don't thing it matters what matters most is the gloss or shine of the parts. The carb housing plate was original to the saw. The covers were new Farmertech. The carb housing is the same color black just very flat black.Anyone ever done a complete plastic saw, like a 350 or 455. I'm tempted to do one myself.
Also does it matter how well the plastics match before you dye them? Not sun faded, but a different shade. Will it still turn the same black?
Very nice! I'll be doing a tank for my hybrid tomorrow! Just have to figure out how to mask the clear tank side and keep the dye out of the tank!View attachment 9419 View attachment 9420 View attachment 9421 View attachment 9422 here's my attempt at dying chainsaw plastic. I stripped it all the way down degreased and washed all the parts. Did a lot of trial and error and ended up using a 22 qt stock pot and two bottles of rit dye. Just because it seemed appropriate I used my wood stove in the shop to heat the concoction. I boiled each peice for about 45 minutes each. Having to flip a couple of them because they were a little too big for my pot. The color is even and I don't notice any lines where it may have gotten darker on one half more than the other.
I like it!!!
Dig it, I know what my 345/346 project is gonna look like now.View attachment 9419 View attachment 9420 View attachment 9421 View attachment 9422 here's my attempt at dying chainsaw plastic. I did think of that but I don't think the diameter of the pot is big enough for doing it that way!You just need to figure out how to keep that translucent portion around the cap out of the dye - suspend it with wires to something rigid. Then, it will require moving in several different positions to dye the parts you want black, and preserve those that you do not.

Hmmm... you might just have something right there! Thanks for the idea!Go to a thrift store and get a turkey roasting pan. Problem solved!
