I simply love those echo style vents. I buy them 10 at a time and use them on everything. I like them so much better then just about every other style ive messed with. They are cheap and so simple to retrofit to everything even if you gotta glue them in like @Leafy did. Lol nice work BTW.

Thats cheaper than the build kit isn't it?

I cut up an oak with mine, runs good but doesn't really have enough more power than the China 5200 to be worth the weight. I'll still use the 372 in hardwood over like 14" vs the 52cc but that's really it. I think it needs more carb to cut faster. That's even running square file on the 372 vs round and 8 pin vs 7.

Got one of the hyway bigbore 372 popup kits
Looks good.
Nicely finished cylinder
The popup is small i don't expect the 170s
The 268/272 popups have.
They have 50mm popups on their website
20.00 not bad priced at all.20181203_150014.jpg 20181203_150028.jpg

A coworker just got a "Holtzfforma" 365 today. Yes, the vibration especially at idle is significant. I've found that a ms250 engine made by the same people (Farmertech) has a heavier piston than crank counter weight, so that could be it. He put a 24" oregon bar on it, and I tuned the carb. Its been a few years since I ran a chinese 365, so I can't tell how much relative power it had, but it does well. I think 24" is pushing it oiler and power wise. It came missing a bolt for the cylinder to handle spring, so I found an oversized one to install. After all these years they still have too much play in the clutch drum, so it has the ability to disconnect from the oiler. I've never let one go to find out if it would eventually tear up the oiler arm, I've always made and added a nylon washer. It sure spills gas easily out the tank vent.

This is me by the way back when I used to mess around with these.

Fun fact: in the video I gathered these RPM characteristcs:
First 365: 7000 max power, max torque around 6250 (aggressive new 33RS chain)
Second 365: 6800-8400, max power/cut speed ~8500, peak 9250 still cutting

I just finished the HLS 365/372 kit that was on my shelf for a year. Had to use a few OEM parts- oiler grommets, fuel filter, air filter cover clips, little stuff. The clutch drum was out of round, so a Oregon drum is on order. Compression is 150 with Caber rings. Should I go ahead and modify the tank vent, or have some been ok?

I didn't investigate my latest one since it's not my problem, but it lost a lot of gas in my car on the way home from testing at a log dump site just by laying on the clutch side. My 2188 only looses gas if set on the starter side. So, yea, probably should check and modify it. And the clutch on this one was out of round to (a wobble off axis, not really out of round in shape, but crooked on the shaft).

I cut some huge 40-60" chunks of silver maple with it recently. 24" bar. It took a really long time, but kept working. I let it do the work and kept the rpms high around max power.

Be nice to it, grease all moving parts: oiler worm gear, clutch bearing, chain tensioner. I've had an oil pump seize up and strip a gear on the first run of my first chinese 365. I still cut a whole 16" oak into firewood with it like that

Thanks, looking forward to getting some hours on it. The crankcase was in a separate box labeled "made in Italy" and it seems to be very good quality with nice machine work.

That’s a common problem on the vents on those saws when they get older. I think the ethanol warps the tank as a new vent didnt fix the problem for me. Either fit the older style vent with the white puck or do as I did and use threebond, dirko or some type of gas resistant sealant liberally on the od of the part that goes in the tank (clean the surfaces with a q tip and carb clean first).Works well and the vent can be removed in the future with a drywall screw if needed.

I roasted the Hyway top end on one of mine, busted it down and cleaned it up. Stuck that saw back together and it runs as strong as ever, I did notice even before I stuck that saw there was a lot of piston rattle....its louder now..LOL! BUT cuts like crazy. The Huztl kit saw and their "G365" power head I have both run well, start well and seem to be solid builds. None of mine are pretty anymore as they ride around either on the tractor or in the back of the pickup truck..and get used. Not looked at.

I put a hyway big bore popup kit on today on a older china

Looks good didn't touch anything no sharp port edges.
Comp feels good have to check it.
I have to change crank seals
The pto side is leaking.

Haven't had any issue's.

How's the 268 popup piston doing you made?
I like them some don't.
Those and the 272 popups I've been running are still doing good.

It looks like the BB jug still has the 'shrouding' of the lower transfers. Did you do any porting on the new BB Jug?

I like the idea of a pop-up piston for these.

Didn't touch it
Most will just bolt them on and go
I wanted to try it out of the box.
Runs strong seems like it'll be a good
Grunt saw.
Not broke in though.
Those hyway popup pistons were on sale 20.00 on their site.
Hl doesn't have them at least not yet
I'm going to try a 50mm 372 popup next.
And a 268 popup for my 268xp.

Those transfers looked a lot more open to me than the xpw or 365 cylinders I was in.

Has anyone had a Cross/ Huztl 365 crank that is slightly bent? When I pull the engine over with a slack chain, the chain goes slack/tight. Barely noticeable.

Pretty much every saw does that a little. The rim wear groove usually does that I think. But I did get a 372 tecomec crank that was bent so badly you could see the end play looking at the clutch moving up and down! The chain went from tight to very loose.
