I only have one am tank with that styleI just finished the HLS 365/372 kit that was on my shelf for a year. Had to use a few OEM parts- oiler grommets, fuel filter, air filter cover clips, little stuff. The clutch drum was out of round, so a Oregon drum is on order. Compression is 150 with Caber rings. Should I go ahead and modify the tank vent, or have some been ok?
That’s a common problem on the vents on those saws when they get older. I think the ethanol warps the tank as a new vent didnt fix the problem for me. Either fit the older style vent with the white puck or do as I did and use threebond, dirko or some type of gas resistant sealant liberally on the od of the part that goes in the tank (clean the surfaces with a q tip and carb clean first).Works well and the vent can be removed in the future with a drywall screw if needed.I didn't investigate my latest one since it's not my problem, but it lost a lot of gas in my car on the way home from testing at a log dump site just by laying on the clutch side. My 2188 only looses gas if set on the starter side. So, yea, probably should check and modify it. And the clutch on this one was out of round to (a wobble off axis, not really out of round in shape, but crooked on the shaft).
I cut some huge 40-60" chunks of silver maple with it recently. 24" bar. It took a really long time, but kept working. I let it do the work and kept the rpms high around max power.
Be nice to it, grease all moving parts: oiler worm gear, clutch bearing, chain tensioner. I've had an oil pump seize up and strip a gear on the first run of my first chinese 365. I still cut a whole 16" oak into firewood with it like that
I put a hyway big bore popup kit on today on a older chinaI roasted the Hyway top end on one of mine, busted it down and cleaned it up. Stuck that saw back together and it runs as strong as ever, I did notice even before I stuck that saw there was a lot of piston rattle....its louder now..LOL! BUT cuts like crazy. The Huztl kit saw and their "G365" power head I have both run well, start well and seem to be solid builds. None of mine are pretty anymore as they ride around either on the tractor or in the back of the pickup truck..and get used. Not looked at.
How's the 268 popup piston doing you made?I roasted the Hyway top end on one of mine, busted it down and cleaned it up. Didn't touch itIt looks like the BB jug still has the 'shrouding' of the lower transfers. Did you do any porting on the new BB Jug?
I like the idea of a pop-up piston for these.
Pretty much every saw does that a little. The rim wear groove usually does that I think. But I did get a 372 tecomec crank that was bent so badly you could see the end play looking at the clutch moving up and down! The chain went from tight to very loose.Has anyone had a Cross/ Huztl 365 crank that is slightly bent? When I pull the engine over with a slack chain, the chain goes slack/tight. Barely noticeable.
